The Milly who answered the door definitely didn't seem like the Milly Teddy was used to -- the Milly with the bounce in her step, who always had such a beaming grin on her face it was a little scary. This Milly was weirdly quiet and subdued, the uncertain light in her eyes replacing the usual bright energy. The smile she gave Teddy didn't seem forced, exactly, but it was a lot weaker than usual.

"Hey," she said, and even though she seemed a little solemn, she was genuinely glad to see him. "Hey, feel free to come in. ...Thanks for coming."

"Hey." Teddy smiled a small but earnest smile, and shook his head when she thanked him. "Thanks for letting me," he said once the door was closed. "I was kind of worried you just wouldn't want to talk to anyone at all - I know it's been pretty rough ..."

Milly shrugged, still managing to smile. "It's other people who don't want to talk to me...and I mean, can I really blame them? So I've just been keeping to myself. I don't want to cause any more trouble than I already have."

He nodded - understanding rather than agreeing. He had never done anything as dramatic as spying for the government, but he knew only too well what it was like to have the people you'd thought were your friends suddenly shunning you - and to believe you deserved it.

"Yeah. I know how that is." There was a little, solemn, careful pause. When he'd fallen suddenly out of favor, he'd come here, to Xavier's, the most welcoming place he'd ever been. Where could Milly go? Sure, there wasn't so much room to be petty here as at a regular high school, but when you thought your fellow students were the ones you could trust and then it turned out you couldn't ...

Teddy sighed. "I dunno. I think ... they'll get over it." It was more of an optimistic statement than a certain one, but ... Well, he didn't want to be the guy to hope for some kind of horrible crisis, but they had a way of happening round here, and it was hard to stay mad at someone who'd just been through the same horrible monster fight as you.
