Turkey Day

Mar 05, 2010 21:40

Characters: Courfeyrac and Volly
Location: Wherever Volly spends his time
Time: Friday afternoon
Content: Courfeyrac brings Volly some turkey
Format: Uuuh, third? But if you want to change it up, I'll follow

There were probably all sorts of scientific reasons why animals purred, but Courfyerac was pretty sure that a turkey would do the trick nicely for a dragon. )

"Oh, hello," Volly responded. He was not so used to getting visitors - at least, visitors who were not dragons, anyway. He trotted over to his caller and went to look in the proffered container; but he was still so very small and low to the ground, having been shrunk down and not really understanding how he was to make himself big again, so he had some difficulty getting a good look ( ... )

Well that was just adorable, even if he almost did get knocked over and knocked out. Having a dragon on his shoulder balanced out getting whacked in the back of the head several times by said dragon's tail. Head injuries aside, Courfeyrac was delighted to have a dragon on his shoulder again. The very idea of it was charming and, if it was a little more awkward in application than one imagined, so be it.

"Oh no, I brought it for you," Courfeyrac hastened to say, lifting up the tray. "Happy Thanksgiving and all- ah, would you like me to put it on the ground for you? It might be easier. I also have cranberry sauce, though I'm not sure if dragons actually eat that- it does taste very good on, ah, cooked meat."

Volly blinked, and his large, milky eyes brightened at the pronouncement. "For me!" he repeated, clearly taken aback by this pleasant surprise. Without delay he hopped off of Courfeyrac's shoulder and fluttered haphazardly back onto the ground, doing a sort of awkward spin on his way down so that he landed facing his visitor.

He dug his little talons into the ground and tried to be patient, to remember his manners - he was, after all, meant to give a reply when someone offered him something. His head bobbed for a few seconds both in an attempt to remember and in anticipation of the promised food, and after a brief pause he settled on saying, "You are kind." It sounded right, at any rate.

He also considered the offer of cranberries; he had tried eating berries before, and although he did not find the experience especially pleasant, he supposed it was possible that he was just not eating them properly. And Temeraire always seemed to enjoy eating his food in strange ways, too, and so Volly could see no reason not to at least try ( ... )

My God was Volly adorable. The little spin! The head-bobbing! It was almost better than purring and made Courfeyrac wish he'd thought up bringing Volly meat sooner. Courfeyrac was extremely fond of anything that did not appear to be able to take care of itself on its own, like with his old roommate Marius, and Volly, though admittedly not as serious and angst-ridden as Marius had been, seemed just as endearingly derpy.

Courfeyrac knelt down and set the tray in front of Volly, grinning. "I promise not to let them harm the turkey- and yes, it is all for you. I've eaten already."

He had tucked the can of cranberry sauce under his arm and now set it on the ground, taking out a Swizz Army knife to pry open the lid. "Here you are- you can try some of that on its own, if you like. I- hm, I didn't think to bring another plate. I can pour it on the lid of the container...."
