Alice loved stargazing ever since Jasper had shown her some of the constellations a handful of months back. Away from home, it was the closest thing she had to him. Sure, she still video chatted with him and talked with him for hours on her cellphone, but it wasn't the same as actually being with him.
She smiled a bit. A few more weeks, and then back home for Thanksgiving. She'd see him then.
She headed into the circle set up for the stargazing, wearing a fitted red pea coat and yellow scarf and matching hat. It was getting colder early this year but she certainly wouldn't miss the chance for this.
Velma adjusted her hat and scarf (they went with her mittens), she was there setting up her personal telescope. Astronomy was one of the few things she didn't have a total grasp on. She couldn't touch the stars, so she didn't have as complete an understanding.
When Velma heard there would be some casual stargazing, she couldn't resist. She heard some movement around and looked up from her toy. Following that she put on her glasses as that would make recognizing those around her.
"Oh, Alice, I didn't know astronomy was one of your hobbies," Velma sounded very cheery for a late hour. Granted, there was SCIENCE in the air.
Alice smiled brightly at Velma's comment, clasping her hands behind her back and gazing up at the sky.
"For the longest time, I wasn't," she replied, her voice almost sing-songy. "My boyfriend taught me to appreciate it though." She seemed a bit lost in her own thoughts for a moment before turning her attention back to Velma and nodding at the telescope. "I guess that to ask you the same question would be rather silly."
Ivan showed up fairly early, with a coat and gloves on. Honestly, not having taken astronomy before, he wasn't sure what they were supposed to be doing here. Would he have to do a lab, or something? He'd brought his backpack, though, just in case.
He liked being outside, though, even if it was getting kind of chilly lately. It was quiet out here, in a way that it never was inside the school.
Remarkably Luffy had actually remembered not only to attend the session, but had also had the common sense to wear a coat on the exceedingly cold November day (although, as ever, he refused to wear any form of trousers other than his knee-long jeans). He was currently sat on the slightly frost-crisp grass, appropriately gazing up at the unfathomable constellations that were so different to the ones he had stared out at back home. Legs splayed out in front of him he rolled his feet back and forth on his ankles, tapping his toes together whilst looking up with innocent wonder and the twinkly objects so far away in the black canvas of the sky.
By some chance of fate Lucy had picked a spot right next to Luffy to stargaze, her eyes wide with wonder as she sat on the cold grass, her arms wrapped around her legs as she rocked back and forth.
When she had been little, her mother had taken her stargazing, showing her each of the shapes in the sky, and telling her their stories. Even after her mother had passed on she had treasured those stories, and always felt like the stars were spirits watching over her.
His reveries momentarily broken, Luffy suddenly noticed the girl sat next to him, who seemed to be just as enthralled by the spectacle as he was, he grinned as he turned back to looking at the set of stars that looked like a giant egg timer (although what Orion had to say about this interpretation is probably best left unknown).
"They are. So pretty~" He made a satisfied sort of sigh, tilting his head to one side contemplatively, "I wonder what they feel like."
Normally Lucy would point out how absurd Luffy's statement was, but it seemed like the magic of those stars made her forget for a moment to note the strangeness around her.
"Hot I'd imagine," she teased gently, reaching up to brush her hair behind her ear.
Stargazing was a past time from her childhood-- during the particularly clear nights, all the children in the orphanage would gather outside and lay down underneath the sky. Unfortunately, ever since her adoption she had little time to revel in the hobby, and had mostly forgotten about it as the years rolled by. When the open Astronomy lessons were announced though, Quistis was more than happy to attend and marked the dates on her calendar.
When dusk rolled around, Quistis had bundled up in a blue peacoat and a white scarf, stuffing a pair of gloves in her pockets just in case the cold became unbearable. She arrived just as the students began to trickle in, but as she looked around she didn't recognize any of her peers. Shrugging it off, Quistis simply sat down on the grass off to the side, bringing her knees up to her chest in an attempt to keep herself warm as she waited for the stars to appear.

"Beautiful," she murmured.
