It was hard to ignore the music as it echoed through the halls. He went to find the source of it, only to find Joshua playing the piano.

He stood back and watched the boy play for a moment, then he approached him.

"You're very good," Cloud was impressed, to say the least.

Joshua looked over at the teacher and stopped playing when he spoke- on a piece like this, it was nearly impossible to play and talk at the same time. He wasn't familiar with the names of all the teachers yet, but he remembered this one. Mr. Strife, the teacher of least favorite class. Even though he did seem like he'd be fun to talk to, in Joshua's mind anyway.

"Thank you," the boy replied, with a slight smile and twirl of his hair, "I practice quite a lot to be so."

When Robin first heard the music playing, she could have sworn it was her brother Allen who was playing. They were both musically inclined, him moreso than her, and she was surprised to see that it was someone else playing when she stepped into the room. But she was polite, and she didn't interrupt as he played, choosing instead to stay by the door and listen. It was a beautiful piece, though she didn't recognize it at first. But when he stopped for a moment, probably to re-read a part for clarity as it didn't quite sound right for the end of a piece, Robin stepped forward and said, "That one is a little difficult."

Joshua looked over at her, a little surprised since he hadn't heard her come in. "It is that, but I enjoy the challenge~" He wouldn't have kept playing it if he hadn't, though it was admittedly quite frustrating at times. Gesturing to the keyboard, he asked, "Did you wish to play?" Honestly, he would have liked a little more time to practice, but such was the problem of a school with only one piano.

Robin could understand that feeling. She enjoyed the challenge too, and there was no shortage of that for her: not only was she a teenager, but she was also female, and women typically had smaller hands then the men who wrote these songs. "No, it's alright," she said, "You go ahead. I just thought it was my brother playing, which is why I came to look."

"Oh, your brother plays?" And probably went here. How common was it for siblings to be mutants, he wondered? He didn't start playing again just yet- if he was going to talk to her, that would just be distracting while he was trying to practice.

Sally was still a bit out of sorts from her arrival at the Institute when she heard the faint sound of the piano. She'd been exploring, making a mental map of what was where and so on and the piano gave her a new direction to go in. She smiled as she recognized Rachmaninoff. The man had a certain sound to his piano compositions and while the prelude that was being played wasn't one of her favorites, the fact that someone was playing Rachmaninoff made her smile.

The song was almost done when she found the piano and pianist. She watched Joshua finish the song and then applauded quietly. Moving towards the piano, she spoke quietly, "That was brilliant." She moved until she could look at the sheet music and then back down at Joshua. "I don't suppose you know his Prelude in Bm?"

Joshua decided he was going to have to get used to the interruptions, though at least she had waited until the end of the piece. "Thank you," he replied, nodding to her with a slight smile, "As for the B minor prelude..." He took his book down for a moment, flipping through the pages with a slight frown as he looked. Finally locating it, he placed it back on the piano and said, "Mind, it's been a while since I've looked at this," before playing.

She smiled as he began to play. It was a song her Gran had adored and she'd passed the adoration to Sally. She moved to sit down a little ways from the piano to listen. It was a difficult piece and he was doing well. It brought a smile to her face.

He did mess up occasionally, but nothing too horrible. Frankly, Joshua was a little proud for that, considering that he hadn't looked at this one in a while. He finished up and looked back over at her. "I take it you like that one?"
