Axel had gotten to the institute a few days before the rest of the students and though there were a few others, most of them had been in a similar situation to himself - forced to come here. It wasn’t so bad. He got free food, a place to stay, someone to teach him more about his powers (even though he thought he really didn’t need that much help, it couldn’t hurt), and more importantly, it wasn’t juvenile hall.

In any case, now that students were beginning to make themselves known, Axel had decided to take a walk around the grounds, to see if anyone caught his eye. You never knew who you’d meet in these sorts of places, and it was worth knowing who did what. Axel was just passing around a corner, avoiding a cluster of students that were a little too loud for his liking, before he spotted the girl under the tree. A wide smile spread over his face - though it was far from friendly - and he made his way over, hands stuffed into his pockets and his smile gradually softening as he approached.

"Well, I wasn’t expecting to see you in this ( ... )

By that point, Naminé had opened up her sketchbook and was turning pages through it, trying to distract herself with something calming until she could work up the courage to go inside and find her dorm room. Then there would be a roommate to meet, and in a few days classes and lots more people to meet--it'll be okay, she told herself firmly, before her nervousness could get too out of hand. Even if it wouldn't be, at least she had the lie to calm her.

A shadow fell over her sketchbook, and Naminé looked up. For a moment she didn't recognize the tall boy standing over her--until she saw the unforgettable shock of red hair. Her eyes widened.

"...A-Axel?"

Her fear hadn't been unexpected, considering the last place that they'd seen each other, and the things they were both involved in, he was almost surprised she hadn't run yet.

As she stuttered, he only smiled right back at her in response. "Oh, I'm sorry," he beamed, still looming over her. "Did I scare you? I didn't mean to." Lie.

Of course Naminé was scared, as Axel probably well knew. And why wouldn't she be? It had been months since she'd seen him last. Back then, he had helped her escape--but he was still one of the Organization, and the last place she'd expected to see any of them was here at school. She looked around quickly, as though more of them might have appeared.

"W-what are you doing here?" she demanded in a panicked whisper.

Laura held a great dislike of enclosed spaces, and now that her roommate had moved in, she was even less inclined to spend time in her room, that didn't include sleeping or showering. Honestly, being able to come and go as she pleased was something of a novelty, and she still tensed whenever she heard the footsteps of another echoing through the hallways, half-expecting to be dragged back to her bedroom.

She'd taken to spending a great deal of time reading, whenever she wasn't training. In the past few days, she'd made her way through two novels, a play, and a short collection of poetry, and was currently halfway through Pinocchio. There was a specific tree she always sat under, but as she approached it and tasted the air, she sensed another perched beneath it, though the trunk was blocking her view somewhat ( ... )

If it weren't for the shadow of the tree being over her, Naminé might not have noticed that she wasn't alone anymore. But when she looked at the ground--so as not to have to meet anyone's eyes--she could see, in the pattern of leaves and branches dappled on the ground, a distinctly person-shaped shadow, and she glanced up, seeing the dark-haired girl in the tree above her.

"Um." What did one say to a girl in a tree? "Hello?" she attempted.

Having been spotted, Laura changed her position. She dropped down, so that she was sitting on the branch, rather than just crouching, and swung her feet back and forth. Book neatly placed against her lap, she leant forwards, to get a better look at the girl, now that she could see her face.

“Hi,” Laura eventually replied, quite decisively.

Well, they'd exchanged greetings, and now Naminé had no idea what to do. Being around people her own age, who didn't expect her to do anything for them, was a rare occurrence; actually talking to one was even rarer. Maybe the girl wanted to be left alone? But what if she expected Naminé to talk, and thought she was rude because she didn't?

Eventually, she thought of something else to say. "Is it nice up in the tree?"
