Takeshi had come early to the fountain, much earlier than particularly necessary, but his excitement urged him to move so move he did. Albeit it left him like twenty minutes to wait, but it hardly mattered. He stretched his powers out to the water in the fountain, pushing them this way and then that way, creating ripples and faces in the water as a way to pass the time and relax.
He heard the 'hey' and spun quick as a whip crack, his face breaking into a big smile when he saw the other. He assumed it was Jean-Paul, mostly because he recognized the slight accent from their conversation before, and really who else was going to be out at the fountain this time at night?
"Hi!" he called back, reaching behind him to pick up the long duffle he'd lain before him on the rim of the fountain. He unzipped it, drawing out a sheathed blade - a katana, really. "So, you ready for this?"
Jean-Paul couldn't help being mildly surprised at the fact it was completely okay and normal for a kid in some high school to walk around with a sword. Of course, this isn't any high school, and a lot of superpowers are way more dangerous than a sword, but people used to panic about 'Oh my God, Marc-Étienne in 2B brought a knife to school!'
The atmosphere is just something he need to get used to.
"Sure." He nods, smiling in a way that is very close to a smirk. "So what are we doing that is going to need a sword?" he asks, tilting his head toward Takeshi's katana.
Maybe it wasn't normal, not in the sense that JP thought or Yamamoto really. But the sword had been a part of his life since he started middle school, perhaps before. He never took it to school, naturally, nor had he ever actually competed, but after a time the sword was as much a part of him as a baseball or his own beating heart. He couldn't quite put that feeling into so many words, but it was how he felt about it, and since the teachers had yet to prohibit him from practicing with it he found no reason to leave it behind

They're really going to play tag. Only the both of them. The prospect of trying to get a ton of students out after curfew in the woods during the night to play tag crosses Jean-Paul's mind. It would have its merits.
But for now, playing tag only the two of them when he has flight and superspeed doesn't sound like anything... well it's not fair and, more importantly, could get potentially very boring very fast. And JP hates not using his speed, he's been using it naturally since he got it, and it takes a lot of willpower and concentration to always go at normal speed, especially if he's running. It's very frustrating to slow himself down, just like it would be to try and wander around with a blindfold or something.
It's not like flight or the light manipulation that he has to activate and think about it. He doesn't think about the speed. One day, he was faster; the end
