[[Feel free to say just about any relatively normal food is on the buffet thing, except hamburgers, hot dogs, or any sort of fast food. The pizzas are homemade, not delievery. Or DiGornio.]]

[loads up his plate with at least two slices of each kind, setting aside a single slice of cheese for Draco]

She breathed out after they landed, and concentrated on not fainting as the other girls were helped down. After being helped down herself, she brushed out her dress and gave a bit of a shaky smile before heading to her bass.

Then it was her turn, and after she'd reached solid ground, she grinned around at the others, adjusted her dress, and got into position. And did a tiny little on-the-spot, I'm-excited dance. And got back into position again.

There was no need to smooth out her dress--somehow, there never was--and Dorothy went straight to her place at the keyboard. As soon as the others were ready, they could start.

Freshly showered, shaved, dressed, and having run a hand through his hair, Harry stood in the hall outside the ballroom, waiting for his date to arrive, and hoping he could get through the evening without anything exploding, melting, or trying to kill him.

She hurried down to the ballroom, nervous. Would Harry like her in the dress? Did it look good on her? Was her hair okay?
There he was. "Harry!"

On the first count, he was very much not disappointed.
If Rikku couldn't guess his approval from the way he couldn't seem to take his eyes off her, or that slightly dopey gleam in his eye, or the way he was sort of slack jawed for a second, the first thing he said when she got close enough was, "You look amazing!" Followed up by pinching himself, just to be extra safe.

"Y'like it?" she asked, a bit unnecessarily. "Alice picked it out."
Harry wasn't the only one whose eyes were glued to their date. Rikku really liked Harry in that suit. Though where on earth had they found one big enough?

[Alas, in his heels, he has no chance of catching her.]

They actually made you wear it?

Shikamaru was 'sleeping' in a window sill outside of the Ballroom. Waiting for his 'date.' Although this was simply a friendly evening together, and there was nothing more than that. Even if Jinx was cute, but that was beside the point. They were friends, just friends, the rest of the school can believe what they want.
How it is that he got to the dance before Jinx, well. When, Shikamaru figured it was better to nap here than to nap elsewhere. Elsewhere he might forget to go to the dance. Here he has to at least stay attentive enough that if someone approaches him and steps on his shadow he'll notice.

She had deviated from the dress code just slightly. While her dress was mostly black, it had some black accents to it, and she wore black lacey gloves that stopped just short of her elbows.
"Hey," she said, approaching her friend with a grin. "I like your vest."

He didn't have to, and she appreciated the company. Other friends of hers would be there, but one of the reasons she wanted to go with Shikamaru was that he wouldn't be trying to pressure her into showing more school spirit than she really had. She did like it here, and she did want a few experiences that were at least somewhat like a normal high schooler's...but she wasn't likely to join the cheerleading squad or anything of the sort any time soon.
