"Are you going to the homecoming dance?" she asked. "I've got my dress picked out. I'm going just to mingle and if it sucks I'm going to leave. Not like we have to pay for tickets, after all."

The dance? Not a topic he was expecting, "Wasn't planning on it..." It was not his sort of... party. Then again parties were generally not his sort of party. Too much noise, and people, and activity.

"Actually, my plan was to see if you wanted to go as friends," said Jinx. She wasn't terribly surprised to hear that Shikamaru didn't intend on going, but it had been worth a try.

"If you don't want to, that's fine. There's plenty of people going without a date. But it might be fun."
