How does your danger sense work? Does it get any stronger the closer you are to the source of danger?

It's not like I've really tested it that much. Based on the few encounters I've had it's usually just a quick thing that happens right before the danger hits, giving me time to react. But, since this is pretty constant, I think it's either a huge danger that's building around us or my power is malfunctioning/growing.
