NeuroDiversity

May 18, 2006 00:08

I saw that hypanebliss linked to an interesting conversation regarding NeuroDiversity. Given not only my personal background, but my current career, I had a few thoughts on these topics.

First, I think that many of these people are simply people who are Neurotic, and when I think of the term, I try not to think of the negative connotation that word has been ( Read more... )

Nicely stated. I can see why Mr. Fenwick von Kaidevis said we should start chatting. Even though I phrased my comments slightly differently it would appear we agree on the subject matter. Besides, you've got a good perspective on the topic apparently. :)

What are your thoughts on shamanism techniques (such as soul retrieval) being employed to help neurosis? I'm speaking of working in concert with the medical community too, not just strictly "faith healing" for it's sake alone. Because I believe there are people these days who need medication just to get to a point of functionality. Without having a state approaching equilibrium they have a greatly reduced chance of receiving assistance or being able to help themselves.

It's an interesting topic. When I've seen this sort of discussion come up before it is usually in reference to how "damaged" people gravitate together.

Peace!

Thanks, and I'd agree. I'm glad we met, too.

This is something I've been working on since I got hired at this job in January. Unfortunately, I don't really have the opportunity to do any full-blown rituals with the kids, for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that most of the kids identify with the mainstream chris+ian worldview (not to mention their parents). I actually have tried using my knowledge of chris+ianity to help motivate the kids. E.g., one of the most challenging kids we have identifies very strongly as conservative chris+ian. The fact that he is also our most violent client got me to suggest to him one day when he was in trouble that he try reading such passages as "turn the other cheek", "you reap what you sow", and my favorite tack to take with chris+ians, "love thy neighbor". It actually worked, and he ended ( ... )

Totally cool. Not even sure I have to add much to this first part of your response. I wind up using techniques in the business world too that are from ceremonial magick, chaos and even shamanism too. I dig using whatever tools I have in the old bad for different ends. Gotta be versatile in this aeon of flux. :)

Breath coupled with intention is awesome. My friends and I have been delving into some of the Anderson Feri trad techniques to see what goodies are contained therein. T. Thorn Coyle (who has an LJ...she is yezidi) has some great exercises she uses. She enjoys combining the breath with movement and dance. I try those and am getting better as my sword work is progressing.

Incidentally, I have just started taking Iaido (Aiki-toho specifically) and it's working wonders for my own internal stability. I know Fenwick has done sword for years. Do martial arts factor into your interests?

Breath is my favorite Tool I use, and I just got done writing a bit about it a few weeks ago.

Movement and (e.g., Gestures and general Kinesthetic things such as) Dance are another couple of favorite Tools. One of my magickal names, in fact, is "3 Coyotes Dancing" (this is where the "Xi O'Teaz" came from, but that's another story).

Fenwick and I have talked about doing his swordplay together, but to be honest, I don't have the time to do the martial arts I'd like to do (which are open-handed soft forms, like TaiJi).

I have it labeled "Nebula-Cracked Egg" in my My Pictures folder. I love the artistry that is our universe, and for some reason this pic visually reminds me of a new Universe being born.

Thanks for the interesting thread. Oh, and I friended you :-)

Agape!

yep, like it

re psychiatry, have you read any David Healy? he's a shrink, but one very much against indiscriminate medication (and has been in long battles with Eli Lilly, a google for his name and Lilly will get a lot of hits)

and yes, i find a lot of borderline Aspergers and moderate dyslexics gravitate to paganism, for whatever reasons
