Question re: RAW's 8 Circuit Model

Mar 26, 2005 13:00

I just finished Robert Anton Wilson's Quantum Psychology last night, after having finished Prometheus Rising a week or 3 ago. Prometheus Rising is essentially an expose' on Leary's 8 circuit model of Human Consciousness. In PR, he states them as follows ( Read more... )

nlp, 4th circuit, 2nd circuit, psychology, 3rd circuit, 5-8 circuits, neurologick, 1st circuit

I use the order in PR. RAW still uses that order in his lectures and interviews.

RAW has kind of evolved the system over the years as he's thought about it more and more, and you will also notice differences in his labels and Leary's. Quantum Psychology was published more recently, and probably carries a more current version of RAW's take on the model.

The MorphoGenetic thing means he was probably hanging with Rupert Sheldrake at the time. Looking at the question again, I don't know which one is "true", although I also prefer the PR version, as it expounds upon the model probably better than any of his other works.

Well, since posting this, I've been searching thru RAW's own writings on his website, which I have a link to on my front page. It seems that he seems to put MetaProgramming at 6, and NeuroGenetic at 7, as his later books state.

As I examine the two variations, I certainly like the way the 8 Cicuit Model "folds", so that

5 is a higher version of 1
6 is a higher version of 2
7 is a higher version of 3
8 is a higher version of 4

Having MetaProgramming at 7 certainly meshes better this Way, since MetaProgramming is kinda the "evolved" Circuit 3.

But I don't know...

I'm trying to figure out--on my own--whether the MetaProgramming Circuit would be "higher" than the NeuroGenetic Circuit, or vice versa. I suppose this is the only real way to Determine their order (at least for me). I've been meaning to reread Prometheus Rising again (I planned on doing this as I was reading it for the first time ever, a few weeks ago), but I've got so many other books I wanna read first.

The folding you speak of is definitely the intention, RAW specifically mentions it, if I recall. I agree that Metaprogramming goes better at 7. However, the map is not the territory. Ultimately what's important is the usefulness of the 8 circuits in the model itself, not so much their order (aside from keeping the two sets of four separate).

Although I haven't gotten around to finishing it myself yet, I seem to recall that another good book dealing with the 8 circuit model is Angel Tech by Antero Alli.

Which Circuit do you think should go where???

I like the order in Quantum Psychology best (6 as metaprogramming, 7 as neurogenetic). His rationale in Prometheus Rising for the order seemed to be their order of appearance in our species, but I find his timelines suspect and don't really like that approach as a result. In the QP version, the order seems to be based on contact with increasingly more fundamental, less "personal" layers of reality (as he models them), which to me hangs together better in a purely logical, if not empirical, fashion.

Also lets it map better onto the Qabalistic four souls, but that bit is just a piece of trivia I like.

Personally, I've never been fond of the "folding" thing, since the 1-5 connection is the only one that makes any sense for me. In what respect exactly is eighth circuit a "higher version" (or whatever) of fourth circuit? How does 2nd circuit (territory/status/control of resources) relate to metaprogramming or neurogenetic/mythic consciousness? I don't see the connection myself.
