OK I got the laundry soap all made. The blue specks you see is from some end slices I had from some lavender-rosemary soap left over. They are made with mineral oxides so they will not stain the laundry. I decided to add it because it was just scraps and needed to be used up. There is no scent left in them because the soap scraps are a few ( Read more... )

Thanks!

I have been making cold process soap for over 12 years, so it was just a natural to make laundry soap. I have been doing formulary for years and make all sorts of things. I started making laundry soap a long time ago to use up the ends of soap logs when I had a soapmaking business, from trimming the logs before cutting bars of soap. You can however find all different recipes online for making laundry soap. Most of them of course start out with purchased soap and adding various amounts of borax and sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate.

I just make the "grandmas lye soap" which is a really strong soap just for laundry.

I also do it because it is earth friendly unlike commercial detergents :)

Awesome! I love using it. I used some of my mothers Tide with Fabreeze recently and about got knocked over by the strong fragrance! Also, I notice my clothes don't feel coated anymore. I really noticed how coated they feel with commercial detergents when I used my mothers laundry detergent for that one load. I absolutely hated it!

It is going to be nice going back to nice clean clothes that just smell fresh and clean on their own without all the garbage that commercial detergents have.

Also, from looking at the cost to purchase many of the commercial "green" products, it is a huge savings.

Thanks for posting this info-- I was on another site and was linked to your direct blog from your comment on that site--the powder is the way I want to go instead of the glooppy gel version...
BTW...you have a great journal!! :)
