Oh CSM/Teena Mulder. I love these two, I really do and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. You've made them into two believable characters, in a totally believable scenario, and of course the wives know more than the husbands thought they did.

I think this exchange:

"Do you remember, that night on the porch?"

"I remember."

"Do you remember, the last time we slept together?"

"I remember, but I wouldn't call it sleeping."

"Will you let me save her?"

"You mean take her."

"Teena, I know what I'm doing."

"You pulled the trigger. I think you know less than you imagine."

Is one of my favourites. I would love to know more about it; CSM's idea of saving Samantha while Teena seems to think it's something else (take, not save), and why she let's him do it.

Teena Mulder, Bill Mulder and Charles Spender are a great cast. In this story, I can really picture the three of them dancing around all of the issues of the day. The idea that Spender might have asked Teena Mulder for permission to take away her daughter just sent chills up my spine. It is unimaginable.

Oh, you. You are magical.

This is a wonderful, wonderful story. I love the words and the portraits you paint with them. I can just see their lives so clearly, that country club New England set with felt suits and shellacked hair. You made them so very real.

Never mind that none of them had voted for him - he was a Catholic, after all - and never mind that they all thought Jackie Kennedy had married beneath her.

My friend's grandmother used to sniffily refer to the Kennedys as "lace-curtain Irish." I thought of her when I read that line.

And the ending. Oh, my.
