That said, I do enjoy some aspects of it. Mostly, I'm just overjoyed to see Mulder again. There are some great moments mixed in with all the mediocrity, but I think if this episode illustrates one thing, it's this: XF worked best when we didn't have all the answers, when light wasn't shed on everything, and when you didn't try to explain it all out loud. When you do that? It sounds ridiculous, there's no getting around it. They kept things in shadow and just out of sight so long for good reason.
Ah well, at least we finally got a really hot kiss in the DARK.

I thought you said they shouldn't shine light on things! Make up your mind! ;)

Oh my gah. I didn't even realize that but it's SO TRUE. Gross.

I honestly do love The Truth. I don't necessarily like everything about the way the series ends (aka, the rest of season nine and maybe eight) but from where the show went, I think this was a good way to end it off.
Plot-wise:
- A few of you have mentioned the "clip show" which is the trial. I don't mind that. I'm pretty fond of looking back on old footage and seeing how far we've come and and what the journey's been like, which includes this. (Although, since we're getting it during season nine I'm not just looking back with nostalgia but with OMFG THAT is why I love this show. I knew there was a reason!) It is also nice to get an explicit explanation of everything that has happened on this twisting, winding show. Not that I learn anything new from it. And not that I feel like I comprehend it all either. (For the most part, I understand each individual piece. I still need time to digest it as a whole picture ( ... )

This is a very good question!

It's so silly of me to assume that any of this has anything to do with continuity, but I'm guessing that theoretically, if the X-Files were still operational and Doggett and Reyes were still working those cases, Agent Whitney in IWTB would've asked *them* for help instead of M&S. Right?

- My absolute favorite is probably when Mulder has his head buried in Scully's shoulder and she asks him what he was doing in New Mexico and he says exasperatedly, "Looking for the truth." Of course he was; he's Mulder. That line, the way he says it, and Scully's laugh in response are all perfection.
- I'm pretty fond of the plays on words of both "To beg mercy with the man upstairs" and "To see a man about the truth." (Heh, it is a coincidence that they're both in response to the question, "Where are you going?")
- I think all of season nine was worth it just for that prosecutor saying "love child" in relation to Mulder and Scully. Well, almost.
- I didn't realize so many people didn't like Reyes, haha. I like both her and Doggett a fair amount, even if I don't care for the episodes they are in. And yeah, I think that "What is the point of all of this? To destroy a man who seeks the truth or to destroy the truth so no man can seek it? Either way, you lose" is one of the more brilliant things I've heard ever ( ... )

I knoooow, I love that so much. The way Scully laughs, as in "Oh Mulder, you haven't changed after all, and I'm so glad about that". (Also, I love how touchy they are throughout the episode. Squeee!)
I liked Reyes and Doggett, too, and I find it kind of sad how they just drive away, without really saying good-bye to Mulder and Scully. Whatever they decided to do afterwards, I hope they're okay. (And yes, I know. They're fictional characters. Whatever. ;P)
I love the way Scully says, "It's you and me."
"That's what I'm fighting for, you and me!" Yeah, I kinda love them, too.

Is this an actual deleted scene on the DVD? I always thought it was just written into the script but never filmed. Guess I should check out that bonus disc, huh?

Minor things:
-for some reason, it really bugs me that the last time Mulder speaks to the Lone Gumnen, he's taking a piss on the side of the road. ^^;;;; just...really?
-I completely agree with Monica's tribunal speech being kickass!
-and...wow, thinking back on it all, it really is amazing how far this show went over nine years! so many stories! and mulder and scully grew so much...and...it's just one of those shows that makes me think..."oh man, now this, this is television, people!"
