So. . .if I'm reading this recent article from Deadline correctly (it's the one called "Comic-Con: Bryan Fuller Reveals ‘Hannibal’ Season 3 Details, Returning Characters & Emmy Disappointment"; LJ won't let me link to it), it looks like we're getting Red Dragon smashed into the end of next season

Anyways. Cleo's there in the flesh this year, and so is Freddie; I'm hoping they'll both give us details. And an open thread, because dear lord will we need one.
In other news: I finally watched the Red Dragon movie, and WOW, WOW, WOW--all directed squarely at Ralph Fiennes, because DAMN. Somehow in the book, I could never get a clear picture of what he was actually supposed to look like, because of his self esteem issues and self-loathing. I think that works as a plus, but the film version handles it so well. I was impressed.
Still--Hugh Dancy is my Will Graham forever and ever.

But, ugh, I was hoping for Reba, light of my life, who is the ONLY character to not have any connection to Hannibal. Damn it.
that means Alana will be yet another Romantic Interest Prop for Dolarhyde.
THIS is exactly why I'm enraged if this is the case.
From the stuff that's coming out of SDCC, I get the feeling that Fuller is anticipating FOUR seasons for Hannibal, instead of the originally planned six. Which, fine. . .but I'm still upset that I'm getting a shortened Red Dragon season.

Stupid TV budgets and their stupid budgetary reasons. . . That sucks, that they were flat-out told to get rid of somebody. I can't imagine trying to write for TV with those kinds of restrictions and changes in mind. At least with the written word, you don't have to worry about actor's salaries.

That worries me for a number of reasons--do they think they'll get cancelled after four or something? Mm, with the number of people who jumped ship after the Bev incident, I guess it wouldn't surprise me, but still. :(
It'll be akin to Michael Pitt being cast as Mason Verger for you; I'm gonna hate myself for finding the creepy serial killer hot, but whatevs.
You may be overestimating just how bothered I am by Michael Pitt as Mason Verger. Which is not at all. I LOVE how he's playing that character--wouldn't have it ( ... )

Whoa. No, please, no! I was really looking forward to Reba! She's an extremely compelling character in so many ways. Much as I adore Alana, she won't cut it. I want Reba, and I will only be satisfied with her.
I'm tempted to read the article, but I kinda don't want to, at the same time. Probably will swing back to look at it after the season has started.

The article doesn't give a lot away; it's not a Q&A type of interview, just a summary of things Fuller's said pre-panel. More stuff came out at the actual SDCC panel: like, the FBI are only going to be shown in ONE of the first SEVEN episodes. Whaaaat? I'm not in the mood for Hannibal and Bedelia trek across Europe for the first half of Season 3.

Exactly! The girl is awesomesauce, and the only time she really doubts herself is after she finds out about Dollarhyde.

I didn't see the panel (my life has been literally all work and family this week), and yikes, that is a really scary thought. I do love Hannibal, but Will is our core and our center and our ground and our ceiling in this show. If we don't have Will to guide us through the crazy (even when his own sanity is questionable), I'm don't want to board the train.
I'm hoping those six episodes will feature lots of MindPalace! Will, or something like that. Because if Hannibal isn't seeing him or thinking of him at every turn . . .
