UNGH! LOVE your thorough reviews. I totes do. I helps me understand what works & what doesn't.
I was thinking that if the Summers boy staying with the Kents had been a little brother, interactions would've been different. The boy goes from sheltered to sheltered, so that little aspect of contrast for Scott would've been lost. I'm not sure if it was planned or just a coincidence -- I didn't set out with the thought "What if Scott was the younger brother?" but it was a consideration when I came up with the story. Clark's role also changes because he was an only child and now he's a big brother. Being a brother was probably one of the reasons Clark became Superman in this world. And being adopted by the Kents was probably a reason Scott doesn't-- and would never want to-- be an X-Man.
