I read Persepolis when it first came out and I LOVED the artwork as much as the story. The geometrical, nealry child-like style was so heartbreaking in contrast to the story. I haven't seen the movie though but I will. Thanks for linking me to her thoughts on the subject.

In related news,I'm reminded of my Near East Art History instructor almost shaking with fury when the USA-Iraqi War began. One of the frist places bombed was the Bahgdad Museum, which housed the ver, very, VERY precious few artefacts from the ancient civilizations of Sumeria, Mesopotamia and the like. We're talking thousands and thousands of years before Christ. All gone.
