Fic: Elemental - Part IV [1-2 of 11 ] Ensemble, post-X2 (rated mature)

Jun 25, 2007 12:22

Only the last 2 chapters need editing and if I didn't have to pull extra shifts it WOULD have been done, durnnit! I've also adjusted the section banners slightly because I'm anal retentive like that. Part IV's banner is just a version of the Summers Brothers header.

Hi, there. I recently discovered this story and did a marathon read through this weekend. It's very well done (though, I will say the interludes did have to grow on me; sometimes they slow the storytelling pace down a bit more than they should). You actually made me like Scott and I don't think I've ever liked him in canon or in fanfic, so kudos to you. Remy's always been my favorite (although the lack of Cajun accent was a little jarring at first, but understandably so). I definitely wasn't expecting what happened the past few chapters and can't wait to read the conclusion.

I did want to give you a head's up about the copy of the story on your website: some of the links to the interludes in Part II appear to be broken, but the FFN version of the story seems to be intact.

Wow, it was marathon-read-worthy! That's SUCH an awesome compliment. Thank you so much! Thanks also for the heads up on the website links; I thought I'd fixed it all. *sighs*

I was aware that the interludes would slow the story down but the brothers being Summers (or just, generally, boys) wouldn't talk about their background and how they got to the point in the present day when they're barely talking to each other. It had to be shown. It was a calculated risk but I'm glad you're liking it now.

Scott is SO worthy of love. IMHO, he and Remy are two sides of the same coin. They have very similar backgrounds (orphaned, adopted later in life by people who end up using them, etc) but their personalities are such that superficially, they SEEM very different from each other. If you want great Scott fics, check out minisinoo's fics and recs as well as those in comicfic.net. That last link has some great Gambit stuff, too. ridesandruns writes HILARIOUS movieverse fics mostly focusing on Scott, Jean and Wolverine. I'd say my Scott is a mix of all those.

Hee! Well, I really did like the interludes, since they were all incredibly insightful. The one where Remy wanders around the house collecting things and sneaking into his dad's room is so poignant and so him. I just wish the canon authors would remember this about him (and other characters), which is why I haven't read comics in years. Sometimes the fan authors do a much better job.

Ooh, thanks for the recs. I've been re-reading all the old fanfics from, like, the 90s I'd saved on my hard drive, but I'll definitely check those out.

Also, I'd totally forgotten to tell you how much I loved "Because Thorns Have Roses," especially because it was more about Rogue becoming a hero than about her love-life (which can be fun, but sometimes authors forget she's a hero too). If the movie had turned out like anything remotely resembling this story, it would have been awesome, rather than pathetic.

DANG, that review just TOTALLY made my day! a FRILLION thank yous! You're right about a lot of Rogue fics (and Rogue!canon for that matter); they're usually about her love life. Her power and how they affect her physically and psychologically is just as interesting.

You survived your marathon-writing-weekend! Yay! I'd offer cookies, but I'm sure at this point something a little harder might be appropriate? *smirks*

*insert large ego-stroke here*
Dammit, what am I going to do once this series is done? Seriously! It is indeed a bigass novel, and I'm going to miss that giddy sense of anticipation whenever I see that banner pop up on my flist.

Quite honestly, I am in love with "Apeshit". I really, really, really am. All four of the brothers are so well realized, and everything that you've done so far is coming together in a tight upward arc to the climax...and plus, we get to see Scott go, well, apeshit. And that ending? Absolutely spectacular. Now we get to see it all go down. Yesssssss.

Gav is growing on me. He really, really is. And I <3 your Essex, in a twisted sort of way. You've got a fantastic villain on your hands here, and you're handling him well. He doesn't come across as being too over-the-top in a flat sort of generic villan way -- he's over-the-top in a holy shit that's scary way... ( ... )

Thanks muchly for the massive ego-stroke. It is chocolate truffles.

Technically, I'm not QUITE done because I had to pull in an extra shift but I WILL be done by tonight! Am taking a break from the last chapter right now. ;)

Much as I hate writing action scenes, I'm really enjoying the boys kicking ass. *L* I think I might have gone over-drive on the language though. Gav is just a strange little Pinocchio which is part of what makes him fun to write. Essex is the complete opposite-- he's creepy because he knows a little too much.

Thanks again!
