Blackcurrant Communications...

You want to know how I tell that my blackcurrants are ripe and ready for picking...I'll tell you. I keep a sharp eye out for the Blackbird who appears in my garden and seems remarkably friendly with me (taking worms from the hand etc.) See when my back is turned? My folks used to have a Blackbird which used to be very tame. It used to come and stand in the kitchen and harass them if it thought it was due a feed. If they had a lie in, it would be standing looking irate on the back step waiting for my Dad to open up and put food out.

I put a plastic crow in our cherry tree and fig bush. I think it helped but we might have just been lucky so far for other climatic reasons perhaps. I've been collecting mulberrys today. They're brilliant at hiding inside the bush where the birds might never notice them :)
