I was just rereading it the other day and realized just how much I love it--though it's much different this time around, obviously because I'm older. It's as if the magical haze has been stripped away...
this is so funny, because i've actually been on a salinger kick! i just finished "franny and zooey", and i've been reading his "nine short stories", one of which is the above. :) both books i've been meaning to read FOREVERRR and now i'm finally doing it. and loving it.
Which is your favorite of the Nine Stories? Besides "For Esme," I really like "Bananafish" and "Just Before the War w/ the Eskimos." Ginny Mannox, the narrator of "Eskimos," reminds me of myself as a teen...skinny, awkward, lending people money and never getting it back, etc.
i'm actually in the middle of the book right now, so i'm not sure if i can pick a favorite until i'm done-- but i've read "bananafish", "just before the war with the eskimos"-- and i believe "for esme" is two stories away. i've really enjoyed allll of them so far-- all of them have struck at me in one way or another in a deep place that i'm loving him for being able to reach.
