By the way -- ASARCO Demolition's slated to begin this month, I believe. Not sure when they're planning to take down the tall stack; I presume it's going to be a while. But the process has begun.
Last I heard, a study was commissioned to see what it'd cost to maintain it, and the price tag came back in the 14-15 million dollar range. It was built before they did seismic studies for such things, and consequently it would need to be lowered into the ground about an eighth of its total height.
Either way, the skyline in this town is gonna change dramatically, fairly soon. I'll keep you posted as things develop, of course.
