Holy Backdates, Batman! markofthewise August 7 2011, 01:50:34 UTC
[Since Katara is dragging him around to help rescue people, Sokka splits off to check up on one of his closest friends and the house that happens to be, well, lacking in skilled fighters. Sokka manages to cut down the weak enemies relatively easy and nearly goes for the bird until he recognizes it as Fenimore's. A cursory scan around the area finds Fenimore herself in the water. The way she's sitting there is not good and he starts to wade into the water himself.]

Fenimore?

[She doesn't lift her head.]

What is it?

He stops before he gets too deep for his boots. But that's close enough anyway, now that he's standing behind her.]

Is something wrong?

I'm fine.

[She's probably not very convincing, though.]

[Grune keeps forgetting her garden has disappeared. The number of times she's wandered outside today alone to do some weeding, then wandered back inside upon discovering her garden has gone on an adventure probably shouldn't be counted.

However, this time, she reemerges right afterwards, a peach for Ques in hand. Only once she's fed the adoring bird does she notice Fenimore sitting in the river.]

Oh, hello, Fenimore! Isn't it a lovely day?

[Awwww yeah, you get all the affection from Ques the peepit. All of it.

Less so from Fenimore.]

Yeah. [She sounds so enthused. Also, she's not even looking at it. Maybe her knees are lovely.]

[Even Grune can't miss that. She walks over to stand at the edge of the river and frowns a little, trying to get a look at her face.] Fenimore? Are you all right?

[Fenimore's response is to try to burrow her head further behind her arms and respond sulkily.] I'm fine.

[Being no stranger to rushing into these new zones when they appear, Adell's quick to investigate this new area... and finds it surprisingly calm. He hears the sounds of the fight between the bird and a hologram and comes running just in time for the bird to claim victory.]

Well. Haven't seen that happen before...

[And that's when he catches sight of Fenimore sitting in the river.]

Huh?

[If a bird could look smug, that bird would at Adell's surprise.

Meanwhile, Fenimore stirs a little at his voice, but doesn't look up. She knows he's probably addressing her with that "huh," but maybe if she doesn't acknowledge him, he'll give up.]

[No such luck. Not in a time like this, what with all the bad guys running around, she might get hurt, even with a bird protecting her.]

Fenimore? Hey, you're not hurt or anything are you?

[Because man, she's acting weird. Sitting around like this at a time like this.]

I'm fine.

[She sounds pretty listless, and she still doesn't move.]

[Moses is, of course, attracted to a piece of home. It surprises him to see a bird but even more to see Fenimore sitting in the middle of the river.]

Fenimore? [He moves to wade into the river, sitting on the bank and setting aside the drawn spear he had been carrying. None of the creatures around here will give him trouble.]

You okay there? These things haven't been hurtin' you, have they?

[Oh, it was Moses. She could smell him coming I mean She doesn't really stir much from her place in the shin-deep water.]

I'm okay. [Though she sounds pretty listless about it.]

[He shakes his head, stretching his legs and feeling the cool water on his feet. And you should count your lucky stars you didn't say that out loud.]

You sure as hell don't look it. Come on, what's eatin' at ya?

[She frowns, even if that wouldn't be visible for him.

Flatly:] A fish. [...Well, sort of. There is a small fish nibbling at her toes, but it doesn't fall under "monster." Rather, it falls under "very confused Luceti fish."]

[You know, a normal person would have addressed the girl. Marco is not so sane normal however. Instead he addresses the bird.]

Want a little help there mate?

[The bird looks up at him and chirps back, probably something like "no, it's all good, mate," and whistles what is presumably "thanks." While it can probably speak in a way to be understood by regular people like most Luceti animals, he's never really gotten into the habit of it.

But since Fenimore's back is turned to him, she doesn't realize he's talking to her pet.] No.

[It's just as well, while Marco knows most birds in Luceti can speak human, it's still weird to see in action.]

Are you sure? [That's to them both.]

Ye -- ! [She turns her head and...is he talking to her bird.

Meanwhile the bird is making a gesture oddly reminiscent of a person flexing their muscles while trilling. He's got this, bro.]
