It was weird to see Sam glow. Daniel looked up at her and slowly blinked his eyes. Light was radiating around her, framing her body and it made her look like an angel. A beautiful angel sent from the heavens to save him from whatever peril he had gotten himself into. “My angel,” he whispered.

He shifted on the cold ground, where he had woke up moments before, and reached up with one of his hands. Daniel smiled as he ran his fingertips over Sam’s cheek. “You’re so beautiful. I’m glad you came,” he said. “I love you.”

Suddenly, Sam disappeared and Daniel whimpered. He reached out his hand in hopes of finding her again.

“What happened?” came an unfamiliar voice.

“He was about to dial the Gate when he collapsed.” It was Sam’s voice and it made Daniel smile. “He was acting strange during the entire mission...almost like he was drunk or confused.”

“I’m only drunk with the love I feel for you, Sam,” Daniel heard himself say. “Will you come back?”

“And he’s been talking like that ever since he woke up,” Sam said.

Daniel moved his head and raised his eyebrows when another figure appeared before him. It wasn’t Sam and his lips slowly formed a pout. “You aren’t Sam,” he muttered. He tried to move to see Sam again but his body protested and he groaned in pain.

“I think he might have that flu Colonel Mitchell brought back from M-3FI6,” the unfamiliar voice said. Daniel jumped when a cold hand pressed against his forehead. “He’s running a fever. We should get him back to the SGC.”

Daniel felt himself being moved and lifted into the air. He laughed a little and grinned when he saw Sam again. “Sam,” he said, reaching out for her. “I think I’m sick.”

Sam moved beside him and lightly took his hand. “I think you are but don’t worry, they’ll fix you up,” she said with a smile.

“When I get better will you go to a movie with me? I promise it won’t be a boring documentary,” Daniel said.

Sam paused for a second. “We’ll talk about that more when you’re better,” she said.

“Okay,” he whispered before they went through the event horizon.

“Good to see you up and about, Jackson.”

Daniel looked up from where he was sitting in the dining hall. He gave General Landry a tight smile and shrugged a little. The last week had been hellish as the alien virus he had gotten worked its way through his body. There was a lot about the week he didn’t remember and he was afraid to ask what he had done.

“Thank you,” he finally said. “I haven’t been cleared for off-world missions yet.”

“Better to be completely well before you go out again. Don’t want you passing out on Colonel Carter like you did last time,” Landry pointed out.

Daniel grimaced a little. Out of all the things he remembered, his conversation with Sam was at the top of the list. He remembered calling her ‘angel’ and asking her out for a date. Ever since getting out of the infirmary, he had been avoiding her out of embarrassment. He did care for her, and had wanted to ask her out several times, but he never did out of fear of what she would think of him. Now, because of a fever, Daniel had asked her out and he didn’t know what to do about it.

“I should probably thank her for helping me,” Daniel said.

“She’s in the control room if you want to talk to her,” Landry said.

Daniel gave him a smile and stood from the table. “I’ll look for her later. I have a few things to catch up on,” he said before he turned and walked out of the dining hall.

As he walked down to his small office, Daniel began to wonder what was wrong with him. He could fight aliens but got tripped up when it came to Sam. Maybe, he thought as he sat down behind his desk, it was because he had loved her for so long and it took a fever for him to say the words.

It wasn’t how he wanted to do it. In his mind, Daniel would confess his love for her during a meteor shower or while they were standing on the bridge of the Daedalus, while watching Atlantis come into view. Not on a wasteland of a planet as he laid on the ground, suffering from an alien virus.

“God, I’m a jerk,” he muttered before he laid his head on his desk.

Daniel didn’t know how long he stayed like that before he heard his door open. He knew it was her without even looking up. Sam had a quiet presence about her no one else on the base possessed.

“Hi,” he said without looking up.

“Hey. Are you okay?” Sam asked.

Daniel slowly raised his head and looked at her. Even without the glowy outline, she was still beautiful. “I’m fine. Just resting my eyes,” he said, while wondering if he should apologize for what he’d done. “Sam...I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am for what I said when I was sick.”

He watched her expression and swore he saw...sadness pass over her face. Daniel gave her a confused look and opened his mouth to speak but stopped when Sam waved her hand.

“It’s all right, Daniel. Don’t worry about,” Sam said as she forced a smile. “I should probably let you get back to work.”

As Sam moved toward the door, Daniel furrowed his brow. Something was wrong and he couldn’t just let her walk out like this. “Sam!” he cried before quickly standing from his desk. He hurried across the room and grabbed her arm. “Sam? What’s going on?”

Sam sighed and looked down at her shoes for a moment before looking at him again. “It doesn’t matter. You obviously didn’t mean what you said. You were sick and didn’t know any better,” she said.

Dropping her arm, Daniel stared at Sam. “Did you want what I said to be true?” he dumbly asked.

“I...” Sam started. She stopped and looked away.

Daniel sighed and reached up to cup her face with one of his hands. He gently nudged her face so she was looking at him. “Sam?” he softly asked.

“Yes. Yes, I wanted what you said to be how you really feel,” she finally said.

Suddenly, Daniel’s heart was pounding in his chest and he grinned. Sam - Sam! - wanted what he’d said to be true. All the fear he felt quickly melted away and he moved closer to her. “Good because I meant what I said,” Daniel told her before he pressed his lips to hers.

They kissed for several moments and when they pulled apart, Sam looked up at Daniel, her cheeks flushed and a smile on her face. “For the record, I feel the same way you do,” she softly told him.

Daniel didn’t need to hear the words to know what she meant. Just knowing was enough. Reaching down, he took her hand and smiled. “Lets pick out a movie,” he said as he pulled her into his office and closed the door behind them.
