This was really sweet. I wish we could have had something like this in the show. It was lovely.

It would be nice, wouldn't it? *sigh* Oh well, at least we have fic for when the show smacks us over the head with its ~message once too often. ^_^ I'm so glad you enjoyed this, thank you so much for commenting!

Thank you! The highest compliment you can pay a fic writer is to wish it had appeared on-show; it means a lot. ^_^ I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much!

Thank you! Colin Morgan's acting at that scene was - just phenomenal, and I really wish we'd seen more of it, so I got to gratify a whim of my own here, and all due to the lovely prompt I was given by helva2260. I'm really glad you enjoyed it and it worked for you!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for writing this - it's lovely! ♥ ♥ ♥

It's a fascinating idea to follow the story of Merlin's grief through Arthur's eyes, and you did it so well! It's so plain that Arthur loves him, and yet it's so clearly not clear to either of them. Merlin's so bound up in his own pain and the trying to hide it, and Arthur's just worried about him *hugs them both*

And I love that Merlin managed to share at least some of the painful truth with Arthur. Maybe at some point Arthur will look back and tally up the facts and similarities, and realise that Balinor is the father Merlin was tlaking about...

There's something rather beautifully elegaic about the last couple of lines:

At some point, he was bound to consider why he had been at such pains to find out what was troubling Merlin, and he was bound, at some point, to realise that Merlin quite probably meant more to him than any other person he knew.

But those realisations can, perhaps, wait a little longer.

♥ ♥ Oh Arthur! And you are just a beautiful writer *hugs*

♥♥♥♥♥ No, thank you for your wonderful prompt, and your generosity! I'm so grateful for both. You're a lovely person. :D *hugs*

Seriously, the list of prompts you gave me was beautiful, and I couldn't have asked for better - so I'm really, really delighted that you liked the end result! And you picked up on the hints of more-to-come, the groundwork laid for Merlin to tell Arthur his Big Secret, and that was wonderful. It was so much fun to write, a kind of snippet in the universe I wish the show itself inhabited sometimes, and I'm so glad you liked it!

Thank you again! For your generosity and your prompts and this gorgeous comment. ♥♥♥♥
