Even if his trips to Xanadu are mainly short escapes, Cedric can't help the impulse to be helpful. (It's one of many things that makes his wife both aggravated and fond.)

So he turns on his PINpoint to reply. "I'm sorry to say I've not met any Charles here, but there are many ways in and out. The trick is finding the one back to your proper world, I'm afraid."

"How do I do that?" Of course it's complicated. "I mean, I don't actually know exactly I ended up here in the first place, so just retracing my steps is out."

"It's generally a bit trial and error. Do you want me to come meet you somewhere, so we can speak in person?" It's not pressure, just an offer; some people find the PINpoints unnerving for any lengthy conversation.

Some people are in the middle of a war, in fairness.

"That would a big help if you didn't mind. It's not that I can't handle trial and error, but I have no idea where to even start."

And she would definitely prefer to speak in person. The PINpoints are cool and handy little devices, but they're not anything like what she's used to

"You say that as if I limit myself, Raven. Now please, tell me where you are." He could probably find her easily if he weren’t so intent on keeping his promise to never read her mind.

"I know how much you like the 'groovy mutations' line." Her voice doesn't quite pull off dry, as she's deeply relieved to hear from him. "I'm on a street corner, in front of a bakery and a laundromat, and across the way is a church."

Come on, smart guy. You're the genius, find her.

“I’m not exactly familiar with laundromats in strange cities, but I’ll see what I can do.” His voice doesn’t sound too concerned. “I’ll keep the device on while I find you, just give me a few moments.”

His own side of the conversation grows quiet until the distinct sound of methodical steps rings distinctly behind Raven. “I am however, familiar with bakeries. The cupcakes here are exquisite.” The smile that plays on his face suggests that an offer could be arranged if she were to ask.
