She's not terribly concerned by being somewhere she didn't intend to be. She's paranoid (by nurture), so she's definitely alert, but she's an X-man, this isn't really new. She's been to Limbo and Hell and various Nexii before. This one is almost familiar. At least, when she sniffs around--and she is, literally, sniffing around, like a dog--she can ( Read more... )

Stigmata may not be the busiest joint, but it gets decent traffic by what handful of current regulars it happens to have - presently, it includes one Remy LeBeau. He's bumped into all kinds of folks in here, and so he's not exactly to see Laura at the bar.

He pauses for a moment, one eyebrow raised, and then exhales softly in what's almost a laugh. Almost a year ago he walked in just like this, and saw Logan sitting there - just like that. Figures.

No verbal greetings, not yet - she knows he's here, that much he is pretty damn certain of. Perhaps more.

She picks up on his presence very early--very early, she can catch his scent, hear his heartbeat, his breathing. Her body language turns tense but she doesn't turn around immediately. She hasn't put those can openers away, but she hasn't shoved him into a wall and demanded to know who sent him and who he's working for either, so... for Laura, this is probably relaxed.

When she does move, it's slow and deliberate, just her head moving as she considers him. What runs through her head immediately--Designation: "Gambit". Alpha-level mutant. Potential threat level: extreme.--well, it's nothing personal, it's a reflex from fourteen years of viewing everything from the lens of a trained killer. She's made it a point to be familiar with as many of the X-men as she can, including the ones she hasn't met, which has mostly consisted of stalking them and/or reading their files. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s, Xavier's, whatever she can get access to. She's not dumb enough to not have a contingency plan or twelve in place in case she ever needs to subdue them ( ... )

Having a contingency plan to deal with Gambit is a very, very good idea, considering the sort of shit he gets up to. (And considering what he's capable of, though no one knows the full extent of that just yet.) In his opinion, people should have much better plans, as he's managed to endrun all the ones they've had so far. It's not that he thinks he's so much better and more skilled than everyone else, it's that a part of him is honest-to-god tired of getting away with it all.

But when the inmates are running the asylum, well... Maybe it's no wonder they haven't bothered to properly put him down just yet. Maybe he still has his uses, as low as they might be.

He ends up behind the bar on one end - opposite Laura, he might be aware of the AVF in here but he's also not about to go dance around in her blind spots just to see what happens - and goes poking around in the fridge for whatever's calling his name right then. "Yo, petite."

Yeah, he knows who she is. It's hard not to - and not just because of Scott's decision making skills.

Thankfully she's that much more paranoid than the rest of the X-men--with the results to prove it. That might be why she's essential for X-Force, or maybe Scott's just a dick, who knows. But she finds it really, super weird that they all trust each other so much (even Logan--especially Logan) when she's read enough of their history to know that they're always switching sides and getting possessed and dying and coming back to life and being mind-controlled into zombie ninja assassins... the idealism is really frustrating in light of all that.

At least she's consistent. Hmm.

"Hi." It's really fascinating how immediately obvious the dull affect of her voice is, even with a single word. She doesn't sound bored, or tired, or anything at all--it's like talking to one of those computer voice readouts. But her eyes are following him with a moderate level of suspicion; she's wondering if he's the one from her origin universe, or a different one. There's really no way to know for certain and that bothers her.
