let go your conscious self

While he knew the definition of the word, it wasn't until after a year on Tatooine that he truly understood the meaning of exile. The desert planet was already sparse and with his only contact with the outside world being a moisture farmer and his wife, Obi-Wan heard little news of the war outside of Owen's grumbling ( Read more... )

Having spent some time in a world that was dark and gloomy, the grass and colors were much more vibrant and alive than he remembered. He was walking through the field, gathering peonies for his mother's grave, he saw the lone figure dressed in clothes unlike anything Ichabod has ever seen before. "Pardon me. I will not be long." He felt as if he had interrupted something.

The unexpected sound of someone else's voice immediately snapped Obi-Wan to attention. He shouldn't have let himself slip like that, especially not now.

And yet he didn't sense any ill will on behalf of the man and with being sent to quite a different world, Obi-Wan stood up in greeting. It was only polite. "Oh, you're not an intrusion. If I'm in your way I can find another place."

"Oh, no, you were here before me. Please, I will only be a moment and I shall be on my way," he noted the polite tone with one of his own. "My apologies for not introducing myself to you first. I am Ichabod Crane. Are you new here?"

Ichabod comes and goes at random times in Xanadu to keep himself from losing his mind in his own world. Meeting new people along the way gave him new knowledge in dealing with situations that he wouldn't have known how to handle before.

"I'm exceedingly new," he admits, not that it would take much for a person to discover that on their own.

He can feel his pulse slowing to a more normal rate as he does his best to relax under the circumstances. With a small smile, Obi-Wan nods. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Ichabod. I'm Obi-Wan Kenobi." He then remembers Owen's scoff associated with the name and adds, "Or Ben if you prefer."

"It's past midsummer - green is normal enough, is it not? Oh!" Anne comes up to him, without ado. "Are you from the desert? I've met someone from the desert before. Or the tundra? With all the snow."

After the first man had spoken to him, Obi-Wan had come to realize that this place was exactly what he had been seeking: sanctuary. While taken aback by the young woman's direct question, he didn't instinctively put himself on the defensive.

"I-" he pauses, not quite sure what to call Tatooine. "I do live in the desert, yes. Is it that obvious?"

"Um, I was just guessing places that don't have green often. But that's neat! I've never been to the desert, myself." She smiles, open and sunny. "I'm Anne Seagrim. You're new?"

The desert really isn't that neat in Obi-Wan's opinion, but far be it from him to tell the girl otherwise. "I'm Ben," he says, remembering that that name seems to go over best. "And I've only arrived a few minutes ago."

There was something he liked about this place. It wasn't the rivers or the grass, nor the scenic hills extracted straight from a touched up photograph from a postcard.

He walked along the grass in his pressed shirt, jacket draped over the crook of his arm, and shiny black shoes covered in grass. It was only after he stopped for a break when he noticed the other. He was half expecting a herd to sheep to be in tow.

"Must be taking a break from the old monastery." he mused mostly to himself, removing his shoe and giving it a good shake to remove some pebbles.

There isn't any sheep close by, and if there were, Obi-Wan probably wouldn't know what to do with them.

The Jedi sensed the man approach and decided to wait until spoken to. At the comment he still doesn't turn to the stranger as he continued to look at the river. "If a monastery is what you're looking for, I believe you've come to the wrong place."

[OOC: OMG SORPRISE!]

The retort earns a brief glance with a surprise rating of mild. After all, his voice had never been describes as quiet before, nor was good hearing such a rare gift despite how most people generally failed to utilize the ability.

"My mistake," Tony offered in a lax tone.

"No. Not what I'm looking for. I'm all about being in the wrong place."

"Good. I wouldn't be one to find monks on such short notice." His tone is dry with just a touch of humor if you listened closely enough.

"And just what would be the right place?"

Magda is honestly a lot creepier than she'd like to be, considering that since Martel fixed her she's been trying to make friends, or at least fit in a little: now that her all-consuming thought is not o god let me sleep, it's become something more along the lines of o hey i wonder what people are like.

When she sees Obi-Wan, she watches him with silent curiosity for several long minutes before she finds a spot behind him where she can stretch out on the grass, her chin propped in her hands, observing him while he sits. And then she just lies there, wondering idly what people think about.

He's being watched, and while he can sense that no harm will come to him, he still doesn't like the feeling. The flight from his somewhat still new home had left him with an uncomfortable pause and he decides not to alert the life form that he's aware of it's presence. Not yet.

Instead he practices his calm, watching the river flow gently by before closing his eyes and opening his ears to the sound of rushing water.

After a bit, Magda skootches closer. Dear Diary: to-day I creeped on someone in a cloak for an hour because I had nothing better to do. If only Leonato knew what kinds of things I'm up to! I feel so rebellious. Love, Magdalen.

She's about ten feet away now, shielded by a cluster of tiger and oriental lillies.

Obi-Wan feels her growing closer and still does nothing. While he can receive a general sense of a person, he can't pry into their rationale. He wants to hear what she has to say as explanation for very odd behavior by any stretch of the imagination.

He takes a deep breath and exhales slowly, enjoying the feeling of an atmosphere free of harsh desert elements.

It'd be nice if meetings like this could all be soulful and clandestine or at the very least not impossibly awkward. Unfortunately, Luke's been out of the Nexus for so long that he's still mentally calling it the Nexus and not Xanadu, and so he's not paying as close attention as he should. This is exacerbated by the fact that he's conversing on his communicator with the 'Yes mother' sort of tone that suggests he'd rather not be, comm unit in one hand, cup of engrossing Earth-coffee in the other, peculiar bag slung over one shoulder. His black garb is accentuated by an obnoxious yellow leather bomber jacket (why, Luke), but nothing stands out quite so much as the very distinctive weaponry attached to his belt.

"Yeah, I know, Wedge," he's saying into his communicator. "It's gonna work! You're too paranoid. You've been promoted for too long. Yeah. Okay. Okay. I promise. Like six hours. Really. I'm--"

He doesn't notice the older man until he's practically on top of him, and when he's there, the look of 'Oh, I'm an idiot' that passes ( ... )

There's a rushed voice that clearly isn't talking to him, a voice that belongs to someone else strong in the Force. The day had taken one strange event after another, but this was by far the most interesting. If the mumbling had belonged to anyone else he would not have bothered them if they did not wish to be spoken to. This one was different.

Fortunately for Luke, Obi-wan turns to face him much after the idiot-face passes. Curious, yet still cautious, Obi-Wan stands and brushes his hands against the sides of his robes.

"Hello there," he says, a greeting that Obi-Wan knew he had the bad habit of using far too often as soon as it left his mouth.

Luke has run into all kinds of alternates in his travels between dimensions, but the ones from his universe - one way or the other - never cease to throw him. He knows this man, and would recognize him no matter his age, but his stature, his gaze, and that nostalgic greeting - Luke has to take a moment to just stare.

"Uh." Smooth, kid. "Hi."

He tells himself that he should be used to this, that once you get stuck living with your twenty-four year old father and your mutual twenty-three year old mentor that things should stop sending him into moments of awe, but Obi-Wan Kenobi holds and always will hold a unique sway over him. And this is no young apprentice by far - the gravity about him speaks with familiarity of the man that first trained him. (Who Father murdered.)

"I mean. No, hi works. Hi."

If Luke is staring because of familiarity, Obi-Wan is staring for the lack of it. His eyes linger on the young man's face longer than what is standard protocol for a first meeting. His brows furrow slightly as he takes in the stammering.

Yet in his confusion there is also a realization that with this person being Force sensitive, Obi-Wan is not as alone as he had previously thought. The young man didn't seem particularly threatening; but then again, Qui-Gon had told him that Anakin wasn't either at age ten.

"I apologize if this seems forward, but have we met?"
