CHAPTER 4

"Do you not sleep or something?" Kazuya asked as he glared at his roommate standing in the same corner of the room as the previous day.

"I don't get tired when I'm in my Spirit Form."

"Well stay in your Human Form, then. It creeps the hell out of me when I wake up seeing you standing over there looking over me." the boy explained as he stretched, "Besides, you'd learn more if you stayed in your Human Form."

Walking back into his room, Kazuya remembered he had cleaned it and could now sleep in his nice cozy bed, "Death can have the couch." he breathed without concern for the other as he went to his closet, changing into his work clothes which consisted of white pants and the pink Kazen Café t-shirt.

Taking Jin to work with him wouldn't be too bad, he thought. Today he was only working the morning shift, so it wouldn't be that long of a visit. He could just sit back and observe; maybe help Pi with some simple work behind the counter, or wash dishes. Kazuya silently laughed to himself when he thought of the almighty Death reduced to a mere dishwasher. What about school, though? He could have Jin shadow him, but would that be a wise thing to do? He could pretend he was interested in transferring to his university and was checking out what it offered, but would it be too much of a hassle? Whenever they went out in public, one thing was for sure. Jin would have to be in his Human Form. There's no way Kazuya could just have the man hovering over him in his Spirit Form unable to acknowledge his presence without others thinking he was some psychopath.

Upon re-entering his living room, Kazuya's eyes fell over Jin's suit, "Crap."

Hearing the young man's words, Jin glanced up from a book he was reading, a questioning look on his face. He took note of the outfit Kazuya wore, thinking that it didn't really suit him. No, pink definitely did not suit him. It would appear, however, that it wasn't his outfit that was of concern at the moment.

"You need clothes." the boy stated.

"What's wrong with this?"

"You wore that yesterday when I took you to Kazen; you can't wear the same thing two days in a row!"

"Why not?"

"Because it's gross! And dirty! People will think you haven't bathed!" Kazuya stated the obvious in his part of the world.

"I haven't." Jin countered.

Kazuya refrained from furthering their conversation, telling himself that he would have to teach his friend about personal hygiene later. After he got his next paycheck, he would have to take Jin to get some clothes, because there was no way in hell the clothes that adorned his lean body would properly fit the man's well-built figure. For now though, he would have to come up with some sort of lie.

Jin had recently assumed the position of a sales representative. He wasn't sure what it was they did, but he had been told by Kazuya that from now on that was his job. Why? Because Kazuya would most definitely not resort to having Jin take on his Spirit Form and glare at him throughout work. He would much rather Jin lie about his role in life, which conveniently 'suited' his needs. Now he could wear a suit whenever he wanted to, and it would be perfectly fine, because it was the standard attire of those who were of his occupation. Death was a sales representative, those annoying salesmen that knock on your door, and out of ignorance you would open it wishing with all your might that you hadn't.

Standing in front of the counter, Jin leaned backwards nestled into a corner. Kazuya had decided that he needed to adjust better to society and how things worked before socializing with other people. At first Jin found that just standing there observing was as boring as listening in on Kazuya's small-talk, but as time wore on he found a liking in watching the boy work. During Kazen's most hectic hour of the day, Kazuya's movements became more rushed as he was hurrying from table to table taking down orders and running them back up to the counter. Though rushed, however, his movements were also quite graceful as he swerved between chairs and other obstacles, his calculated steps working in synch with the rest of his body making sure to not drop anything as he served the customers. He also wore a lovely smile. Whenever he walked up to a group of people ready to order, it would dawn his face, highlighting his already beautiful features. It was a wonder why all the girls lining up outside the café were peeking in to look at the young man.

As lunchtime neared for Kazen's employees, Pi started to close up. Kazuya immediately approached the counter, resting his hands upon the edge and leaning forward to catch his breath as his bangs fell over his face.

"You okay?" Jin asked as he bent his head around the boy's arm to get a better look at his face.

"Peachy," Kazuya muttered in a forced breath.

As everyone knows, a peach is a fruit, but it took Jin a while before he figured that it must also be a way of describing someone's current state. He found it to be rather amusing; using a fruit to describe your condition.

After a few moments, Pi came back to his cash register. Sometimes the look Pi wore on his face when dealing with the metallic box sent chills up Kazuya's spine. If anyone could pull off falling in love with an inanimate object, Kazuya knew who to put his money on.

"Maa~ Everything looks fine." the sandy blond haired man concluded as he locked up the cash register with a smile on his face.

"Of course it looks fine, it always looks fine!" Kazuya thought as he turned in direction of Pi, "Is it really now? Are you certain?" the boy asked, wondering if he could get Pi to actually look again.

"Well..."

Kazuya's jaw dropped as the man double-checked his cash register, "I can't believe you."

"You know what they say~ Nothing is certain but death and taxes." he smiled while a rather puzzled look fell upon Jin's face.

"Death and taxes?" Jin asked wonderment at the sentence he just heard.

The blond man nodded his head in response, "Yep~"

"Death, and taxes?" the man asked once more, facing Kazuya who just blinked wearily.

"You're not familiar with the phrase nothing is certain but death and taxes?" Pi asked.

Jin stared with a raised brow, pausing before he replied, "I am now," while still at a loss as to what this 'phrase' was suppose to imply.

The plan was to take Jin out shopping so that he would have a bit more variety in his wardrobe, but the boy was too tired to exert the energy that that task would require of him. The café hadn't been any busier than usual; in fact it was just like any other day. However, Kazuya had been suffering from sleep deprivation lately. He couldn't sleep very well with a stranger in his house, and even after getting somewhat used to that notion, he had spent much of his energy cleaning his room the previous night. So, taking the man out would have to wait for a while longer. Right now all Kazuya wanted to do was go home. It seemed that all the caffeine he had imbibed earlier at Kazen wasn't kicking in as of yet.

As Kazuya changed out of his uniform, he thought of how long he would have to reside with Death. He was told that their souls were 'bound' in exchange for a second chance at life, that if he chose to accept this contract he would have to familiarize the other with his world. How was he supposed to know when he had completed this task? And when he did, what would happen? Surely he wouldn't be bound to this contract forever; that was ludicrous. Yeah, it was fun to have someone else to talk to every now and then, especially someone as ignorant as Jin to amuse Kazuya throughout his day, but to be followed every waking moment of your life... he wouldn't want that, regardless of how eventful the past few days had been.

So far, just what had Kazuya taught the other? As he went over things in his head, the boy figured that as time went on and he engaged in his usual everyday activities, things would just naturally fall into place and he wouldn't have to worry about much. As far as he was concerned, that whole kissing scene Jin observed was as bad as it could get. Aside from the porn, of course.

This Death character... he said that he was once like himself, suggesting that was he was human at some point. He acted human enough at times, Kazuya had to admit. During their first encounter however, Jin did quite well in assuming the role of some higher being who's very presence went beyond intimidating. The atmosphere immediately took on a mysterious air when his figured appeared in the room. He conveyed a feeling of darkness, uncertainty and despair when he stared at the boy, yet, when Kazuya finally locked eyes with the man, he saw the eyes of a lost child. The expression on Death's face remained emotionless, but as Kazuya stole a glance at his eyes, he could feel a definite sadness emitting from the man.

Just as Kazuya was about to resume cleaning the rest of his room, Jin walked in, his face still buried in the anatomy book as he plopped himself onto the boy's bed. Throwing a short glance in the man's direction, Kazuya wondered what he was up to.

"What's with him and that book? He read two others in one night, I don't see why that particular one's taking him so long..." the boy thought when suddenly his face lit up, "MAYBE HE LIED!" For some reason it hadn't occurred to him that the other could tell lies.

"Ne, Kazuya," the man called, looking up from his reading material when the other didn't respond, "Ne, Kazu-chan~!"

"Ehhhh?" the boy turned in disapproval of the name.

"Oh you're so cute; look how quickly you respond~ You must really like that name, ne?" he gave a playful smirk, the boy only replying with a blank stare.

Jin's eyes bounced between the anatomy book that lay in his lap and the young man before him. Suddenly standing, he walked towards the boy, circling around him once before stopping directly in front of him. Raising a brow, Kazuya glared at the other, waiting to see what he planned on doing.

"...What?" the boy finally asked in confusion as the other began to look him up and down.

An awkward feeling started to build up within Kazuya as he observed the man staring at him with an interest too great for his liking. He could tell that the other had reverted back to his serious self, which only added to the discomfort. What was it now? Was Death pondering on whether or not he should reveal something he had been hiding from the boy?

Lifting a finger, Jin ran it halfway across his bottom lip, pausing with a thoughtful look upon his face, "Let me borrow your body."

"WHAT?!" Kazuya shrieked, taken aback by the odd request; what did he mean by that? "Does he want to possess me or something?!" the boy thought, though he couldn't find the logic behind that seeing as how the other had a perfectly functional body of his own. Everything became clear, however, when the next sentence emerged from Jin's mouth.

"You can only learn so much from a book," Death explained.

"He is so not going there..." Kazuya's mind wandered, his miffed expression not altering for a second, "Dammit, why did I take an anatomy class..."

Jin apparently felt the need to clarify what he was trying to say and continued from where he left off, "I want to see your body... examine it, if you will,"

"So, for studying purposes?" the younger man questioned, an unsure look still planted on his face. "What the heck. Why doesn't he just look at himself?" Kazuya silently thought, but decided not to vocalize this. When Death spoke with that serious tone of his, it was almost as if he were a different person. He didn't act like an idiot and knew what he was talking about. Maybe Death didn't really have a body... maybe it was all some sort illusion. Maybe you could see him and feel him as if he were real like anyone else, yet everything wasn't as it seemed.

"Mmhmmm." the man gave one slow nod as he walked back and seated himself on the edge of Kazuya's bed.

Kazuya raised a brow as he stared at the other, not knowing how Jin was going to go about this as he sat looking quite content. "So, what? You want me to strip for you or something?" he asked incredulously.

"Do you need help?" Jin smirked.

"HELL NO." the boy shouted.

"Then do it." It was an order, spoken quite firmly.

"I really don't think-"

"And if you disobey my command," the man cut Kazuya off mid-sentence as he began to quote himself, "then your soul..." Jin stopped himself once he saw that the other had finally complied to his request.

"Dammit!" the word resounded in Kazuya's head, "What the hell is this?! Some choice I have; 'Strip or die'."

The boy's hands immediately flew to the hem of his shirt once the familiar line of his contract had been uttered, lifting it off his back and throwing it to the floor at the man's feet. Though it wasn't exactly uncommon for guys to walk around in public without a shirt, Kazuya didn't feel comfortable in this situation. Cocking his head to the side, Jin examined Kazuya's upper-body, his eyes wandering back up to meet the other's stare telling the boy to continue. Slowly unbuckling his belt, Kazuya reached for the button. "Just pretend you're changing your clothes..." the young man silently tried to calm himself as he pulled down his zipper and hesitantly let his jeans fall to the ground, pooling around his ankles before kicking them over to join his shirt. "YEAH RIGHT. Changing my clothes with a guy freaking watching me so damn close I can't breathe." Kazuya's inner dialogue continued to grow as each second passed.

Jin was still watching with utmost curiosity. His eyes never left the lean figure before him, rarely sparing time to even blink in fear of missing something. Seeing that the other hadn't moved in a while, Death looked up at the boy in question.

"There's no way in hell he actually wants me to drop my boxers." Kazuya confidently thought to himself, "No sane man would want another man to drop his boxers... Right? DAMMIT. Why do I keep second-guessing myself?!"

Rising from Kazuya's bed, Jin closed the distance between himself and the boy, walking behind the other with his mouth near Kazuya's ear, "Do you need help?" he repeated the question asked earlier in a voice so casual that he could've been offering to do anything but strip the younger man.

Kazuya's expression was one of disbelief, "You want me to...?"

"Of course." Jin replied with ease, as if the answer were completely obvious. "If this is all I wanted to see, I could've gone to a beach."

With the man hovering directly behind him, Kazuya felt claustrophobic. The walls seemed to move inwards, his room shrinking as he stood immobile.

"Kazuya." the name was uttered in a voice sounding slightly stern, urging the boy to continue what he had begun.

They were both guys. It's not like Kazuya had never seen complete strangers when using public facilities, but Jin's stare made the boy incredibly self-conscious. Kazuya tried to reassure himself that it wasn't the big deal he was making it out to be as his hands froze at the elastic band of his boxers. "...Why can't Death be a hot chick?" he wished as Jin came back around to face the boy, though he honestly wasn't sure if that would've made things any easier.

Swallowing the knot in his throat, Kazuya finally stretched the elastic band. His last article of clothing fell past his hips, knees, and then finally came into contact with the ground. He felt a drift though there were no open windows. Things would soon change however as the man placed his hands on Kazuya's shoulders, the boy instantly shuddering at the contact. The first time Kazuya was touched by Death, the man's hand was freezing cold. Now it was warmer. Much warmer. Jin dragged his hand diagonally across the boy's upper-body, starting at his shoulder and ending at his hip as he took his time walking around the small figure.

The man took note of how quiet Kazuya had become; a vast change from his normal disposition. Usually the boy always had something to say, but not now. The man's hand easily glided over the boy's smooth milky white skin, never lifting his touch from the other as he walked around to Kazuya's backside, outlining his hip. The younger man's body still felt chilly, the only source of heat coming from Jin's fingertips as they trailed down his spine, threatening to travel even lower.

"I feel so dirty," Kazuya silently wailed to himself just as Jin's index finger moved to the small of his back, falling into the crack of his buttocks and pausing right over his hole.

"..." The boy's face was burning as his cheeks clenched in an immediate reflex. He stared down at his carpet with gritted teeth, hoping not to make any odd sounds as he was molested by his curious student. Though silent himself, Kazuya could almost see the smirk forming on his face; his finger remained still. "Dammit, stop touching me there!" his mind screamed while his breathing started to pick up pace.

As Kazuya's body adjusted to the contact, his body loosened up, releasing Jin's finger. Kazuya felt the man's feverish touch slowly run across his back entrance a couple more times before coming back around his left side. He stopped in front as he looked at the boy's head pointed downwards, unwilling to acknowledge his presence. If the boy didn't know any better, he could've sworn he was somehow becoming aroused. To his misfortune, Jin raised his other hand, placing it just beneath his chin to lift his face up.

Everywhere the man looked, Kazuya felt as if holes were being burned straight through him. If that had been the case, poor Kazuya would be a eunuch, because it would appear that Jin had taken a particular interest in a certain body part of his. Taking note of the other's stare, Kazuya could only form a single word in his head, "Fuck." The tension grew as he stood in a room of complete silence being 'studied'.

Kazuya's eyes were instantly shut tight; he could still feel the weight of the man's stare on his face. A sudden gasp left his lips, filling quiet the room with sound as Jin's delicate touch was felt slowly moving along the shaft of his cock. When the boy saw Jin lower a hand, all he could do was watch with widened eyes, unable to move an inch. He could've sworn at that moment his body temperature sky-rocketed. Sure he had touched himself there before, but never someone else. It felt completely different; it felt better.

Upon hearing the sound he had elicited from the young man, Jin looked at him in wonder, "What did you do that for?"

Kazuya damned himself as he felt the blood rush to his cheeks, "Why don't you read that damn book a bit closer?" he suggested. "I can't believe I was just molested by a grown man with the innocence of a newborn." the boy thought as he tried to ignore the attention his body now craved as result of the simple touch.

How could Jin be so freaking oblivious towards certain matters, whereas in other areas he appeared quite well-informed? For example, it absolutely astounded Kazuya that the man knew of porn and that it was 'filthy', as he had remarked, yet did not know what it was often used for.

"Looks kinda weird~" Jin commented somewhat to himself, eyes still glued to the boy's lower anatomy.

"You have one too, moron!" Kazuya shouted in frustration.

"Do I?" Death asked, almost amazed.

"You've never seen yourself?!"

Suddenly feeling as though he should take a glance, Jin unbuckled his belt and looked down, "I think mine's different..." he observed as he looked up at the other with a puzzled face.

"Eh? How?" Kazuya wondered, thinking that maybe being Death meant that he wasn't exactly built the same way as humans.

"It's bigger." the man announced.

"..."

"By a lot. Is that good or bad? Am I not normal?" Jin suddenly started to question, slightly worried.

"...You're exaggerating. It can't be that big." the boy muttered in slight curiosity, not knowing whether the other was just trying to further embarrass him, or if he did it unknowingly.

"But it is!" Death insisted.

Kazuya, realizing that there would be no reason for the man to lie, took a step towards Jin, "Pfft, let me see it," the boy said before processing the words that emerged from his mouth.

Shoving his head against the man's chest, Kazuya looked downwards as he snatched at Jin's waistband.

"Is something wrong then?" Jin asked once the boy's face was visible again, now resembling a gasping fish.

"...No, you're just... well endowed..."

A/N (Aisu): I'm so sorry for saying this would be released a few days ago and it ended up being so late! x) You guys still love me right~? :D I got busy with band camp and driving classes... and then there were all these school events and a college visit. @_@ I miss just sitting in front of the computer hahah. xD

The whole "Nothing is certain but death and taxes" dialogue was pretty much quoted from the movie that somewhat inspired this fic, "Meet Joe Black". Actually, if you ask me, the only thing that was inspired from it was the name LOL. It's one of my favorite movies however, so when Kurii came up with a plot involving a Death character I made her watch. I recommend it to you guys, too. [It has Brad Pitt if anyone still likes him? xDD]

I had to put this in. Direct quote from Kurii: "yay! i contributed to Meet Death! i brought in kazuya-the-gasping-fish" LOL xD I've written all of Meet Death so far but she gave me the gasping fish description and the plot bunny hahaha xD <3

LASTLY~ (I know, this has gotta be the longest A/N ever, right? LOL) skettlre has drawn up a character map thingy for this story~ xD (Thank youuuuu~ <3) So, ENJOY~ Took me a while to figure it out LOL
