I have no words...this was just incredible. And that final line:

Winchesters always come back.

So, so powerful.

*is blushing*

Thank you so much! Once I got the first line stuck in my head, the damn thing wouldn't let me go until I finished writing it. It figures that I would choose to do a character study of Daddy!Dean where's he's anger and vengeance and frustration and most emphatically not schmoopy.

Winchesters always come back.

I thought that really fit the tone of the overall story.

Wonderful job!

I love the last line and this one: It was how he was built - the call of family as much a part of him as skin and sinew and breathing

And it carried quite the emotion, even with so few words.

Thank you so much! I really wanted to do a study of Dean as a father...and this seemed the best way to go about it.

Oddly enough, it's as much a study of Penny as it is of Dean...

I really love this glimpse into the other side of the story. I love it.

You're actually the reason I chose to portray Dean as a father using "As She Hit the Open Road." I remembered the conversations that we had about what he'd be doing in the background and, as much as I love the story, I think 250 words back in that mindset is all I could have handled right now.

I'm so thrilled that you loved it.

You already know how much I love this.

She watched his fingers curl and she winced when raw scabs broke across his knuckles from fists clenched too hard,

That right there is where I got the most teary, and it's telling that it's not until about the fifth reading that I noticed *that word* in it. ;)

*face palms*

And I didn't even realize that it mentioned *knuckles* until you pointed it out to me...

Thank you! I'm not sure if you've read the companion piece yet or not. (Best, and scariest, thing I've written, hands down...)

I havent but I enjoyed it on its own actually this piece ;) The other is on my list - as it is quite long it is having to wait until I have a lot of time in front of my compy to read it all at once! (Mininano is kinda taking up time unfortch)

I will get round to it though! HUG!

Cool! I was hoping it would make sense if you hadn't read ASHTOR - and I really wanted to do Dean as a father where he wasn't doing the whole cute and cuddly thing. This was really the only way I could do that.

And no worries about reading. I'm still trying to catch up on your Mininano stuff while allegedly working on my own fic and getting over my sinus infection. ;-P
