the initial reason why they started is because of religion (Christianity) then later...(UK used to fall into this category too not till 1994) it's because they care alot about employees and staffs, not wanting them to be subjected to long hours of working. And they want to limit the amount that and time that people spend on shopping so that small businesses won't die blah blah blah. This is all why Europeans have such 'luxury' lives. And French law seems to be more strict when it comes to these sort of things. And it's not like shops can just stay open whenever they want to because they'll get fined -__- so rebelling is not an option.

LOL, like Nebraska. The only thing open in Lincoln on Sundays was the Wendy's.
