Take a listen to this. Released at the tail end of 1971.

And compare with this. Released earlier.

Did someone try to put one over?

Another thing: Whale Song never appeared on any of the Partridge Family albums (Discography). It doesn't seem to be among the "singles" either. They get hit with a restraining order?

eh, in any case one remained a curisosity of the 70's while the other is still considered my many to be one of the greatest rock and roll songs ever created. So things worked out.

That would be your basic Karmic justice in action.

It's the first thing I thought of upon stumbling over the 70's curiosity: Stairway to Heaven played at a slightly faster pace, and with different lyrics. In any case, it really does make me wonder what was going on there.

If you're gonna rip off something, might as well rip off the best.

Still, I definitely think Whale song sounds more like Stairway to Heaven than My Sweet Lord sounds like He's So Fine, and remember Harrison got sued over that one, and the case took years to resolve (not in Harrison's favor either).

Why should that be any exception to the PF discography Rule of Total Suckitude? (And one of the first of the RIAA syntho-star acts -- YUCK!).

I can appreciate it for what they were doing: campaigning for public support for the Marine Mammal Protection Act, which did pass with Tricky Dick's strong arming Congress so he'd look good for the 1972 election.

If that had anything to do with it, then good for them.
