WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?! WHAT IS THAT?! No. They better not think they can use that. No chance. The abomination they used in Arkham Asylum was bad enough, but come on! (Ok, so I eventually started to take to the Arkham Asylum Harley - but I put that down to the comics being pretty good) But no. That is just...NO. Ugh. That has pissed me off. She's a fucking CLOWN. She is supposed to be blonde, and cute, but lethal. She's supposed to be funny but smart and sneaky. They looked like they've took someone from the Suicide Girls and mixed her with Lara Croft and threw some paint over her >.<
Ugh, sorry for the rant. I can't handle it when they change Harls.
Agreed, and rant all you want because this abomination clearly deserves it! This...this THING they call her new outfit is a disgrace to the character and has absolutely nothing to do with her as a person. She doesn't even look like a clown anymore, which is the basis of her name, for God's sake. This look is horrible and it needs to die. And on the subject of Arkham Asylum, I hated it before I got the game, but it grew on me a bit as I was playing because she still had Arleen' Sorkin's voice and her original personality. I just hate how cosplayers take it as an excuse to dress as a slutty nurse and get attention at cons.
EXACTLY! It wasn't until I got the game that I started to accept it somewhat, but...I just don't get why they feel that in a reboot they need to turn her into a slut. That was the thing, we know all the bad things shes done, we know how she got her degree, we know how she fell for the Joker, we know how many innocent people she's killed...but she still looks like an innocent, sweet little clown and that was one of her main characteristics!
I'm all for cosplayers doing their own take on her - heck, I have a cheerleading Harley costume - but to an extent. I mean, sure, goth it up or whatever, but this is just taking it too far. They're just ruining her for the longtime fans.
Yeah, I love when cosplayers put their own spin on her outfit or interpret her as she might be in the Dark Knight universe. I mean, my first 2 Harley cosplays were of my own invention and a very low budget, and my third was a less gritty version of the Arkham City outfit. But when I, and other cosplayers, do these different versions, we try to stay true to the overall feeling of the character, and I think that in this reboot DC has lost that completely. this doesn't feel like Harley at all, it just feels like some slutty assassin without a hint of what Harley really is.
And like you said, the point of her appeal is that she's in love with a psychotic clown, she's done so many terrible things, and yet she looks like this cute little clown girl and therefore so many people underestimate her.
