letters
the letters come in one by one, a page filled by jaejoong's scrappy handwriting each time. his writing is true to the way he talks, going off on a million tangents and never getting to a point. and changmin isn't there to ask him to round it up and get to the point.
jaejoong speaks of wide fields, tall buildings, and local aromas. he never says it but changmin can feel the freedom leaking from the paper, the sense of adventure that had always been trapped in jaejoong's thin legs.
the letters are always postmarked from different areas, days apart in which jaejoong finds enough to fill a whole page with excitement and adventure.
changmin wants to know where to write so that jaejoong could get his letter:
I miss you.

changmin teaches astronomy at a local university. he imagines that jaejoong could be out there, riding asteroids in the milky way. he sees jaejoong star-hopping, waiting until the last minute before the star dies out to jump off, suddenly, onto another one. he wonder if jaejoong has visited jupiter, with all its eyes and that dark spot - jaejoong would definitely want to jump right into that spot and find out what it was made of. he wonders if jaejoong is just on mars, watching the movement of the earth from the red planet, waiting for the right moment to return while watching the asteroid belt.
when jaejoong comes back changmin wants to tell him he wants to fly now too.

it happened when changmin was just out of high school and jaejoong was just out of his parents' house. two years wasn't that much, would never be that much with jaejoong's child-like personality and changmin's serious demeanor. two years is nothing compared to forever.
changmin opened up quickly to the abundance and nonsense of jaejoong's words; and jaejoong quickly found a home - newly opened.

changmin gives jaejoong roses on their fifth date. jaejoong says that changmin should be too young to do that cliche kind of stuff, that that's what married men who have no idea what to get their wives do. jaejoong shrieks and exclaims and spits his spaghetti everywhere while talking about it during dinner ("you're just too young!"). for the first time, jaejoong starts to wonder if changmin is just too young for him ("you're barely 18! i'm a pervert!")
changmin laughs through dinner, shoving spoonfuls of rice into jaejoong's mouth and trying to get him to calm down and eat.
when changmin drops him off later, he kisses jaejoong innocently, which isn't helping at all.
"don't worry, tomorrow i'll be a day older and you can invite me to dinner."
('this boy is so damn clever.')
