It was November 19th , exactly one month after the release of their new album, and the worst time ever for Taemin to find himself in his current situation. He was sitting on the bathroom floor with his knees curled to his chest and one hand buried deep on his own freshly dyed and still styled-for-the-day-hair. In his face, absolute shock.
Taemin forced himself to breath. After a few seconds, he was able to rest the white stick he was clutching beside three identical ones on the floor. A quick survey and double-check confirmed that two pink lines were mocking him from each of the sticks. He cursed under his breath, “Fuck...I can't believe it... ”
His heart racing, the magnae quickly got up, collecting the tests from the floor and hiding them in his pocket. He then started a nervous pace from one side of the bathroom to the other “Oh my god, what will I do! This can't be happening right now.” He grabbed Minho's towel, burying his head into it, moaning and whining quietly. “I'm so fucked up. They're going to kill me...” He was ready to scream his frustrations into the fabric, until a steadily rising, high-pitched wail reached his ears. Taemin sighed, leaving the towel on the counter to check on Munhee, his first son. He sure hoped Munhee would like a brother.
--
Taemin left the bathroom and sped to a trot once Munhee's crying got more insistent. “Ne, ne, Munhee-ah! Umma is coming, calm down.” He walked into the nursery in a hurry, only to find Minho, still on his street clothes and with a bag on his right shoulder, rocking a wailing Munhee gently. “There, there, son.” A large hand caressed the black bangs on the small head, trying to calm down the little one, to no avail. “What's wrong with you?” He cuddled Munhee closer, kissing his forehead.
Taemin smiled at the scene, choosing to forget his impending problem for now. “Maybe it's a tummy ache.” His voice was gentle as always, but still made Minho jump slightly, consequently making Munhee cry even louder. “Omo, calm down Munnie~” The magnae got as close as possible, lifting a warm hand to gently massage the baby's belly, making shooting sounds. Munhee calmed down quickly; apparently being sandwiched between the warmth of his parents did the trick.
Taemin looked up at Minho with a proud little smile, only to be greeted with one of the other’s rare smiles, full of love and care. That almost made him blush and giggle like the love-struck teenager he still was. Well, maybe he giggled a little before getting up on his tip-toes to drop a light kiss on those smiling lips. “Welcome home. How was the interview?”
“Same as usual. Nothing too terribly exciting about a quick radio interview.” He passed a teary-eyed Munhee to Taemin, walking out the door and into their room. The magnae following him with their son firmly settled on his right hip.
“Why are you still dressed? It's getting really late.” Minho had resorted to whispering, not wanting to wake up his hyungs, who were all asleep in the dark room they were sharing. That is, until they all moved out to a bigger place in three months, where the couple would have their own room.
Taemin bit his lower lip, suddenly remembering his new-found condition, wondering if now would be the best time to break the news. He didn't want to cut into Minho's much needed rest, but that applied to himself and his nerves as well. “Well hyung, you see...” He reached for the other boy's arm, tugging a little until Minho turned and fixated those large eyes on his own.
Key chose that moment to wake up from his light doze under the pages of a book. He had been waiting up for Minho, saying there was no way he would just go to sleep when one of his sons was all alone out there - no matter if said son was a father himself and had a manager with him.
“Minho, you're home.” He sat up, working the kinks out of his neck and checking his wrist watch. “Go to bed, quick! We have to be up in five hours.”
Just then, he noticed Taemin standing up beside Minho, who was raiding their drawers for pajamas for the two to wear. “Taemin! What are you doing up? And still dressed?!” Key left his bed, tip-toeing around a dead-to-the-world Jinki.
“There's something wrong with Munhee?” He got closer, checking on the baby under the poor light.
“Oh, no, no Key-hyung! He's fine, just a tummy ache.” Taemin tickled his son's belly, but barely got a reaction, since Munhee was already dozing off, cuddled to his side.
“Okay, good. Now change and go to bed quickly. You still have school in the morning and we're going to fetch you at the recess. We need to get ready early for tomorrow's performance.”
Minho handed Taemin his pajamas and Key took Munhee out of his arms. “Here, I will get this little boy to bed for you.” He kissed a chubby cheek when the baby blinked and squinted up for a second to check on who was handling him. “I just need your clothes in order to start the washing machine, so leave those on the corridor floor. I'll come back for them later and tomorrow everything will be clean and dry.”
Minho agreed with a sleepy “Okay hyung”, already struggling out of his jacket and tossing it out the door before leaning down a bit to kiss his son goodnight. “Night Munnie~” Taemin did the same so Key could finally leave the room.
The magnae sighed, sleep finally making his eyelids heavy and his mind fuzzy. Why was he still up again? After sending his bed a longing gaze and shaking his head to clear the cobwebs, Taemin tried to change as swiftly as possible. And yet Minho was still ready before him. He had already gotten the magnae's clothes and tossed them on top of his own for Key to get.
Taemin had just stepped inside his pajama pants when two long arms encircled his waist. Time for the mandatory good-night snuggle. Not that he was complaining at all. He lifted his head and was welcomed with a soft, warm pressure against his lips. He sighed into the kiss and lifted his arms to hug Minho back. They were just getting into it, Taemin's tongue having found its way inside Minho's mouth, when Key walked back into the room, poking both boys in the ribcage. “Come on, kids. Munhee is deep asleep, the clothes are washing, and it's way past your bedtime.”
They sighed, separating after a wet peck. “Yes, umma.” Taemin and Minho headed toward their respective beds, one on each side of the room, unknowingly sharing the same thought about their nice, new room waiting for them in three months.
No one noticed Key's worried gaze or the four white sticks he dropped swiftly inside his bag.
