Right ho ladies and germs, I will be out of a job sometime in July and so I have been trying to decide what to do from here. As I doubt I will get another job straight away I have been contemplating making the sewing into a bit more of a business as a stopgap, but what I need to know is whether there would be enough interest to make it worthwhile

If you are out of work anyway, then your initial investment is only in materials and advertising, as your time is free, if that makes sense?
I say go for it, I will be in the market for a new corset next spring, hopefully ;)
You have the advantage that you work in more than one field too; corsetry, costuming, fancy dress, and presumably you could do bridal outfits too.

You could well make a living from your work, your designs are unique and stand out. However, I suspect it might only reach worthwhile levels when we're properly out of recession and people's disposable incomes go up. If you have spare time then use it for sure but my suspicion is that as a business it would only fully flower long-term.

Are you thinking of just sewing to your own designs, or making things (like you did with the corset for charity) and then seeing who's interested, or would you take commissions where the buyer is very clear about what they want or has a pattern?
