<3 I hadn't seen this before, and I quite enjoyed it. Thank you for being carey sharey and passing it along!
I think she played Athens, GA once while I was in school there. I didn't see her, but she likely did "Your Ghost" with Michael Stipe, seeing as how he lives there and all. I didn't really know much about her, to be honest, until the Dollhouse episode featuring a cover of that song, though I did have a friend who liked Throwing Muses who included a track or two of theirs on a mixed tape for me.
there is certainly a lot more to the book than the clip suggests, it covers a lot of interesting ground (incl people like Betty Hutton) and is full of the dry humour often missed by KH's critics.
as for the music, well if anything that''s even more subjective but i'm certainly a big, big fan and there's a rack of diverse styles that she's explored over the years.
Dollhouse, yes; goes to show the benefits of a little exposure... i remember the excitement when The Breeders and Aimee Mann were on Buffy and KH was on the radio for an episode. And then there's Empire Records...
But i'm sort of ambivalent overall abut pop use in the media, being a big fan of old skool composer soundtracks and all (except for Murray Gold). it gets a bit saturating.
oh i'm old.
btw - i looked you up on lj earlier so i'm glad you've dropped by :))
