I read the article, and while I do agree with it, I don't necessarily identify with it. It's a bit too ...short. The comments and responses were interesting. We are all different people and while some of us have had similar experiences, we come at things from different angles.
But thank you, and thank you for the link to that particular site. There's lots of interesting reading there.
It can be scary because some feminists hate some women even though they are also feminists and suggest that what they actually need is a course of talking therapy (of the sort that gay folks used to be forced into) to cure them of believing that they are, in point of fact, women.
These particular feminists are incapable of seeing the irony of this line of thinking.............
Perhaps I've not seen the most extreme examples, but I have never seen any woman being told that she should not believe she's a woman. That strikes me as wholly bizarre.
There is a huge debate right now as to whether or not transwomen should be admitted into women-only space. The most radical in the "against" camp say that transwomen are not women at all, but rather men disguising themselves as women in order to gain access.
Ah, I see. I had heard about transphobia in LGB(T) communities, so I suppose that it stands to reason that the same issues would exist amongst feminists.
One of the facebook comments at the end was a bit troubling. The first bit was fine: Feminism is simply that radical notion that women are people. Women have so much to offer in our world today.
Absolutely. I don't know about "simply", but that's the basic gist.
I hope that we can stand alongside men making the big decisions for our planet. It feels like it will be more about people and less about profit.
Women are just as capable of being profit focussed rather than people focussed. That's part of equality really. (And the idea that women are statistically more likely to be biologically predisposed towards focussing on people rather than money is, to be quite frank, unscientific BS.)
The whole idea that if women ran the world there would be no war is just another form of sexism. Women are just as capable of violence as men and just as likely to further conflict. That's why women are just as suitable for roles in the army as they are for roles at the negotiating table. Gender essentialism is not feminism.

There are a LOT of young women out there who feel this way.

MEN HATE US AND THEY ARE BROUGHT UP TO HATE US AND THEY ARE ALL RAPISTS (I paraphrase slightly but you get the picture)
I can't blame a straight, cis young woman from running away from that sort of feminism.
