Now, let me say right now, I haven't seen it yet. I'm hoping to see it Friday, unless I can talk someone into going with me over the weekend. But I also want to see Snow White and the Huntsman. At least I just put some checks in the bank.

Actually, she DOES live today. She ONLY lives today. Her character is a modern construct, created by 21st century writers for 21st century audiences. The story is set in an earlier time, and contains mythic elements from yet ANOTHER EARLIER time and unrelated place (ancient Greece ( ... )

If she was a "spoiled brat", then you would be in favor of her dressing in the prescribed fashion of her position and fulfilling her responsibility to her people and marrying the man chosen by tradition? How to answer that one! A spoiled brat because she is disrespectful. And I don't mean she doesn't dress according to what her parents or the culture around her think she should. She complains about the restraints put on her and yet, really, there are not very many until the story begins. Then, suddenly, her mother wants her to become 'a lady'. Why do her parents - specifically her mother - expect her to suddenly conform when she hasn't been made to conform before this particular time ( ... )

Actually, I took a class in Religion & Pop Culture when I was there, and it was very eye opening to me. Our culture REALLY resides in our media, and it is VERY often completely unconscious to us. Further, children are PROFOUNDLY affected by the pop culture that they consume ( ... )
