It's been a while since I've written here and I only check sporadically, because family, school, religious and seidh stuff has been keeping me running. It's been a good fall for the most past. I just got back from the National Council for Teachers of English convention in PA. It was great. Yann Martel was excellent (author of The Life of Pi). I've ( Read more... )

I just got wind of this, and while I'm not surprised I am not happy, being a Redemember and all. All I can say is you simply do not know the *many* comments we (the Rede) received about what you called "perfectly harmless." We had to act in some way. Much does focus on his past history and contintiousness and this comment seemed to just set the flames going again.

That hat aside, are you still going to help with the Clergy Manual? If not, that's fine, I just need to know to what extent are you pulling away from the Troth?

Well, my two bits worth is if you're not comfortable doing something, don't. If I felt my wife was being mistreated by someone in a group, until the situation improved, I'd have a hard time representing that group too.

I hope you can convince Hraffy to take over for you. He has been known to be a stubborn ass but if you think he'll step in for you as steward for Texas, cool. I haven't yet been able to meet him face to face but he seems to have a relatively solid rep down there.

As to the Clergy Manual, I hope you stay on. A wide variety of opinions will only make it better... If any of the folks back in Minnesota had gone through the Troth's clergy program, I'd be encouraging them too.

I'm feeling horribly out of the loop... I try to keep up on some of LJ and some of my email but I've missed this entire thread you're talking about. At least I'm working.

You said (snipped in part):

"..Hraffy...seems to have a relatively solid rep down there."

*laugh* yeah right...

Ah, this turns out to be about The Troth. Sigh. That means I can't offer any except the most basic sympathy and support. Never a member there.

However . . . your research for classes sounds fun, it is indeed a great honor to be asked to write stuff (I never was!), and FWIW, in a completely general way, I entirely agree: our duty is to be good heathens and just do it. I'd plug A Heathen Thing here, but you've presumably already heard about it and I have been especially leery of spamming Troth people about it, since The Troth does--as you remind them--also aim to be a heathen org. that just does heathenry, rather than politics.

I'm glad Holy Springs and your seiðteaching group are both flourishing.

And not being in The Troth, I hadn't heard about Raffy since I left Texas--I'm thrilled he's doing well and FWIW (non-Trothie, remember), I always respected him, too. Is he on LJ by any chance?

Waving,
M

Uuis thu wyrdteacher hel

I have just been freed by Ermund Alderman. I saw some of you and Rich's posts and thought they were interesting. I hope you don't mind but I thought I'd take the licerty of adding you and your husband to my lj friends list. I thought it could be a gesture of good will to the Frisians. After all your Thiad has done a lot of our Thiod lately. I wish you the best with your Seidh teachings.

Uuela!
