aw, that sucks. Fwiw, I think that you would have been brilliant! It's really cool that your mom got a part. REALLY uncool that they cast 2 people without an audition. grrr.
Do you know 'spajunkie?' She got a part in her city.
They had it last year (or the year before?) in Houston... I didn't go, but I want to this year. If not, maybe I'll go to Austin to see it :)
I don't know spajunkie but that's cool. It would be awesome if you came up here to see ours. The tickets are going to be $22 each, I think. It's running at the end of September. I'm sure Houston has a show, though. Check out http://boldaction.org for dates and stuff.
You know, my sister and her boyfriend live in our old house and are trying to get into the film scene in Austin. They moved there from LA just to try and get into it. They have found that the film scene is terribly cliquey and they hate that fact.
That seems to be a problem with Austin. I know that we moved there from CA and that Austinites hate people from CA (despite half of them being from there) but we never really felt like the place welcomed us in many ways.
I'll end my rant there.
But I do think it's total bullshit to have an open casting and not plan on using anyone from it. It's a publicity stunt. That's all. It's free advertising for the play. And it's bullshit. If they have open casting, anyone who wants to be in the play should show up for the casting.
To be fair, they did use my mom from the open call, but they put out an open call for the show with only two roles open and didn't disclose that it was only 2 roles. That's what really chaps me. She used her friends from the year before. I can't say anything because she's so prominent on the Austin birth scene and I don't want to compromise my position there. Really chaps me.
Sorry about your sis. There's a guy that live around the corner from us that does film - ViTek is his license plate. She can come stalk him from our house. :)
