Going Old School - Are You In? (Would You Like A Fanzine?) Poll for Star Wars fans!

You guys:

Partly in protest of SOPA, and partly because I so obviously need something else to distract me from my coursework, I was wondering … would there be any interest in a new fan 'zine?

I've only just started trying to hash this out in my head, but what I'm thinking is that maybe "we" could create a layout of fics/other cool stuff which ( Read more... )

Hi, dipping a toe in this convo re TFN: I, too, thought my stories made not a ripple and three months later, went back to them to find three people had replied. The TFN site's email response is completely out of whack, and their 'big move' to someplace other than IGN, which was to have taken place over one year ago, has gotten snagged into a technical mire. If this anecdotal experience of mine is related to your experience, it would be interesting to compare. Mine weren't archived, as far as I know, but I really don't spend much time on TFN at all and haven't poked around there much lately.

Good luck with your story -- at least getting it e-published is easier than hard copy published? I pronker November 22 2011, 15:30:18 UTC

There's the above big fat hairy thread on the problem, which remains as of 10/30. Some are concerned that n00bs will go somewhere else, and why not? Not being able to receive emails kills forums. I used the PM system last summer to ask a question and remembered a month later *har!* to check on it and it had been answered kindly by a mod, in a timely fashion, so they're getting IN data, but the whole OUT box is messed up. Bummer, because TFN was a starting point for my reading, and yes I lurked for about a year, and I enjoy the boards, just not as much as I used to.

I may be able to do several of the above, so I clicked "Other". Barb and I are slowly putting together two old-fashioned zine collections, and printing as needed, as people want to purchase them, rather than taking on the overhead of printing 50 or more up front.

I totally miss SW zines, particularly the deliberate mixing of dramatic, comedic, long, short stories, poetry, etc. along with the better editing and writing that such projects included.

There hasn't been a lot of response to this (as you can see) so I'm not sure how best to proceed. I have some fics that could go in a 'zine; according to the poll, at least two people would be willing to contribute more. Not sure how much interest there is in helping to put the thing together, but more importantly: so far, nobody has voted for wanting to read it, which is an important component! So, moving along slowly, here …

The collections sound interesting! Do they have disparate themes?
