And yeah, I'm kind of angsting about the ASCENSION thing. *Sighs* I'm...kind of pathetic that way. XD But I think it's mostly...of all the EU's many, many sins, I don't think they'd go into fucking Domestic Abuse As Redemption territory.

I haven't yet read the novel, but from the original article, I get the idea that it's more a case of Romance as Redemption and Violence Is Romantic. It's pretty standard stuff in romance novels, which is one of the primary complaints I have with them. The idea that "if he's hurting her, it must be love" is well-entrenched - see Janice Radway's Reading the Romance for a more thorough exploration of the subject. But I think the problem we're looking at in the EU is one of Unfortunate Implications, not necessarily malice aforethought. I'm not sure how much that helps, but there it is.

And there's always fan fiction.

Oh yes - I enjoyed this! I enjoyed this a lot! Wonderfully fun thing to come back to after work.

I'm sure Palpatine's never slept with an aide, body-guard or receptionist. He saves his fantasies for his Sithly subordinates. ;)
