ten ways to corellia

Author's note: this started out as an attempt to address the questions posed by attanagra and beatrice_otter in last night's entry, Never Been Kissed (http://wyncatastrophe.livejournal.com/139892.html), while ( Read more... )

Vader and Ryn's relationship is beginning to freak me out a little with how much it reminds me of pretty much my favorite fictional relationship ever--Maigrey and Sagan from The Star of the Guardians. Which makes sense, actually, since Maigrey and Sagan are pretty much Margaret Weis's OT-era Padme and Vader from before there was a Padme. Except it's really only the character types that are similar, and the vibe of the relationship, none of the details are even close, of course. Though Ryn is cooler than Padme in some of the same ways that Maigrey is. But it probably says a lot more about me and my weird preferences for fictional relationships than it does about any of the characters.

In fact, it's mostly just this bit: “Where did you get that?” he demands, once he’s got her backed up against the wall of his suite, tracing one gloved durasteel finger down the burn. Oh dear, I seem to have some weird kinks.

I really do think you'd enjoy SOTG though.

I've been high-strung all day. I don't know why, but it hasn't been pleasant, so ( ... )

I'm sorry it's freaking you out. I don't really know anything about SOTG, so I can't speak to any similarities. But if you have weird kinks here, so do I, because I wrote the darn thing. I find the Vader/Ryn pairing a painfully sexual combination of power and futility. Which is why I ship it.

Well, notice the part where this fic "fails on both counts." But also, Ryn's interaction with Obi-Wan was a lot more extensive than she's letting on ...

Not freaking out in a bad way. More like an "oohooh that's really cool but really weird oooooh" sort of way.

And don't feel obligated to speak to it. It's just my rambling observations/reactions to the fic.

But I would be really surprised if you didn't like Maigrey/Sagan.

It's not failing, it's just not writing the particular bit that you set out to write. Which happens to me all the time.

I ship VadeRyn and my icon proves it! wyncatastrophe January 28 2011, 03:06:19 UTC
I think the sheer restraint between them is a constant source of tension. If they ever found a way to get him out of that suit ...

Well, I'm interested, but ignorant.

I'm pretty sure it happens one way or another every time I write. Or sometimes it succeeds on a large scale, but fails to be understood. (See long-ass author's notes from my fanlit_project post earlier today.) Anyway. I wrote some more Leia during a painfully boring undergrad lecture, so you'll get that tonight or tomorrow ... 0.0
