I've stayed away from any commentary on the bombings, til now. I suppose I've been waiting for someone else to bring it up.

I look at this 19 year old, and I don't see a killer; I see a kid. He's a messed-up kid, a kid who made friends in high school and seemed nice, and adjusted well to living here. It creates tremendous dissonance for me, that this seemingly nice but misguided kid blew people up.

Maybe it has caused dissonance in him as well. I don't want to hear his screams. I want to know that he has empathy and that he is tortured by his own mind by what he did. Not because I want him to suffer, but because I want to know that he's not completely rotten. That despite being tempted, corrupted, and used by evil, there is still a soul present.

Because otherwise I have to look at his fresh kid face, a face that looks just like a million other fresh-faced kids, and wonder how many of them have shiny apples outside, and wormy, rotten interiors?

From the eastern part of Europe man could hear voices, saying: "It wasn't them! This thing was hooked up to them!"
Unfortunately, I couldn't find out why they claimed this.
