ok, good news bad news time. the job situation got fixed, which is good, bad that it is a second shift one though, so I am going to have to bow out of the group. wanted to be a part of it.
I'm sorry to hear that. hopefully you can at least join us some time for the social get-togethers. If your schedule changes in the future and you're able to do the workgroup, let me know.
Actually the writing groups I have been a part of have had the opposite problem. Everyone was all praise and amazement at anything anyone wrote, without any real critique at all. I think the most verbose critique I heard as part of the latest one was "That isn't really my genre, so I don't know what to think about. But it sounded nice!"
I think there are many groups that come together more because everyone wants social support for the process of writing, and less because they are seriously working on craft issues.
I think we can achieve both, if there is some basic structure to follow.
I'm a little behind getting those guidelines together; some stuff in RL has been intruding. They'll be out soon though, and I invite your input on them as well. I want this to be a process that meets many if not all of everyone's writerly needs.
