THE TV ALPHABET: A is for Alias

Jun 15, 2011 13:29

So, I've been thinking about doing this for some time. As many readers may know, I'm a huge TV fan, and tend to digest entire series in a weekend. So I thought I'd do a TV alphabet, go through each letter of the alphabet and identify my favourite TV show that started with that letter.

Alias
Alias is a show I watched well after it's original air date ( Read more... )

I would have gone Avatar the Last Airbender.

B being difficult is a joke right?

Good one with Avatar - I had forgotten that. Not sure it pips Alias for me, I own all of Alias, none of Avatar.

B, I'm serious. There are three really strong contenders, and I'm sure people will disagree with what I've picked.

Buffy would be my pick, but I didn't think of alternatives such as Babylon 5. Still Buffy would win out methinks.

Yep, B is tough. Brisco? Buffy? Babylon 5? Lots of choices!

Did you ever see La Femme Nikita? I'd be interested in a compare/contrast with Alias...

The original one with Peta Wilson? Or the remake with Maggie Q? Or the film with Bridget Fonda (which I think was called something else)?

Yes (a few episodes), yes (similar), and yes. Similar love interest between the leads I think (the french guy in LFN, Michael Vaughn in Alias). Similar geeky tech guy. Probably quite similar, although from memory LFN was more about the lead operative who is forced into her life as a secret agent (found guilty of a crime) and is constantly rebelling against the organisation. Alias the first season is more about trying to take it down from the inside, but later season it becomes more clearly good guy organisation vs bad guy organisation.

Forget Peta, Maggue and Bridget, man. Go to the French original with Anne Parillaud!

Buffy, B5 and Bones are all pretty good shows starting with B, but there are only 2 main contenders here. BSG and Breaking Bad. Probably two of the best shows ever. Buffy is damn good but not in their league IMO. But then Buffy is more chirpy than those other 2 juggernauts of depression and we all know I like me some depressing TV ( ... )

Okay I just looked at a list of "A" TV Shows and 3 stood out for me.

American Gothic
This was creepy, weird and cool. It had an amazing villain played by Gary Cole. Shame it got canned. I've only seen it once, so I'm not sure how it would hold up but I have fond memories of it.

The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers
This was one f my favourite cartoons growing up and my brother will never love another TV show like he loves this one.

Alien Nation
Before there was distract 9 there was Alien Nation which tackled so well many of the interesting themes surrounding race relations, interracial marriage and racial crime among others. All within the context of a buddy detective story. It is an extension of the just as excellent movie and one of the highlights of late 80's sci fi.

So as I mentioned earlier Angel would get a nod because of the last season but Alien Nation would win and Alias is on my kind of want to watch.

Um. HELL YEAH. American Gothic is badass.

Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers hasn't aged as well as Gummi Bears though. :) (I own both on DVD)

Was American Gothic the one where he was the Sheriff and he was the Devil?

I predict that you will choose Bewitched.
