Resume and cover letter help

May 29, 2007 13:22

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to write a good resume and cover letter? I can write them in German in a heartbeat, but doing it in English is a lot harder than I thought. Should I turn to a professional for help?

Thanks.

It is a lot easier in English, for example, you can leave out anything that doesn't impact your job and isn't the employer's business. Don't mention your marital status, your parent's professions, or add a picture. You also don't have to include copies of your degrees.

Here is an overview of the format:

Introductory sentence: What you do and what kind of job you want.

Work Experience:
Title, company from when until when followed by a brief synopsis of your duties and responsiblities. Usually chronological.

Formal Education:
Degrees & certificates, name of institution and when you earned them. If necessary a beief description of the course of study.

Additional Skills:

languages, computer programs, etc.

References:
People you know is positions of respect and how to contact them.
