Hi everyone, sorry I'm posting so late, I've had a bit of a disasterous afternoon. I was trapped in a suburb of Marrakech and couldn't get out. Kamal invited me round for lunch at one o'clock. I didn't get back here till quarter past nine ( Read more... )

It was like being held prisoner by the world's most affable kidnapping ring.
Somehow that makes me think me of Yemen.

And how the heck, did you get yourself arrested?

Really, is Yemen known for its affable kidnappers? I must visit!

(On the mistaken arrest, see below...)

I almost feel I should congratulate you on your day.

Remember this? Nearly ten years ago, from the same country...

PARADISE LOST
It's quiet here on a balmy night
I smell quince on the air as I lie in my bed
And the insects hum as the moon shines down
While the stars shoot overhead

And I feel like I don't have any cares
As I study the earth where the argan tree grew
But my thoughts, unbound by time or space,
Are flying home to you

The setting I'm in is a Paradise
And I want it to catch, but it's passing me by
For I'm thinking of you, lying, thinking of me
Under an English sky.

oh that...well I was filming in a restricted area, I didn't really think anyone would notice but apparently one of the passers-by worked for the Moroccan secret police - I think they're called the RG or something. He started saying all this stuff very pleasantly with a smile on his face, but when I asked Kamal what it meant I was told that I had just been arrested. I was like ‘Oh - okaaay..’ But fortunately K's cousin is apparently a chief of police (THAT's the kind of thing that makes a good fixer!) and after a while I was told that in fact the arrest had been a mistake, it was a pleasure to have me in Morocco, and I was welcome to buy a carpet from his brother any time.

gosh, now that is lucky! knowing my luck i'd turn out to be the next bridget jones and land myself a jail sentence for filming an ilegal carpet or something!

and did his brother have nice carpets?
