Last night ended a few hours ago with some kind of magnolia-coloured vanilla spirit which according to two girls I was out with had the ‘look and consistency but sadly not the taste’ of semen (whether that means semen should taste more vanilla-y or spirits should taste more seminal I'm not quite sure, well no, I am),

Well yes, I took it out originally, for that very reason, but I couldn't think of anything more accurate that flowed as well, so, you know, I chose scansion over accuracy. (I'm one of those -- but not those, never those.) I wouldn't in fact describe it as a misdemeanour in real life. For the record, my lack of seriousness here is not because I don't take the incident seriously, I do. I'm very pleased the police saw it through, and I just hope justice is done in the States because god knows it wouldn't have been in France.

Thanks, I actually sort of figured you were going for language over sense there, but I'm especially prickly lately over men of a certain age who don't keep themselves to themselves, so ....

And I'm actually pretty gobsmacked that his accuser was taken so seriously by NYPD and that they did what they did in finding and detaining DSK. Though I'm still not holding my breath that DSK's camp won't somehow buy off or intimate the woman's family, or SOMETHING, so if this goes to a jury trial and the jury trial is actually fair (ie, no jury tampering), I'll be thrilled. Basically, I just want him convicted, because so far as my opinion goes, he's guilty as charged.

Sadly I believe it is Brussels that has gobsmackingly vast quantitities of vertiginous art nouveau architecture, not Bruges . . . otherwise I would demand you critique it. So maybe it is as well, for you :-)

Thanks for clarifying. I was assuming it was some sort of allusion to Brugian history that your savvier readers would catch. But now that I know that burgeoning psychosis on your part is an option, I'll start seeing it everywhere!

And yeah, what herself_nyc said. I know the term is sometimes used of serious misdeeds - as when the U.S. Constitution mentions "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors" - but in current American usage, it's DSK's alleged priapic felonies, thank you very much! I'll let it slide
