No-one knows exactly how the rankings on Amazon are calculated, but here is someone's best guess at it:+2 Ranking Points for 3 helpfuls
+2 points if first review of product
+2 Ranking Points for 10 helpfuls
-1 Ranking Points for 5 more unhelpfuls than helpfuls
-1 Ranking Points for 10 more unhelpfuls than helpfuls

But 8448 is such a cool number (33x256), much much cooler than 8159 (41x199) would have been!

I have in fact posted a couple of reviews to Amazon. I don't like having to think of a title for each review, though, and livejournal allows me to set up my own complex cross-linking - as does librarything, which is why I'm increasingly cross-posting my reviews there as well.
